Been restoring an 88 westy that has been sitting for 7-8 years. After changing the entire fuel system, the engine is purring, the automatic transmission (after changing fluid and filter) only has 1st and reverse gear. Any suggestions to diagnose this problem?
How complicated would it be to convert this to a standard transmission, have access to a complete donor 1990 vanagon with a standard transmission? |

2-3 brake band actuating piston seals are dried up & leaking.
No-2-3 shift, just 1 & R |

the fluid level is right on the mark
The bus came from an estate sale so the history is unknown
I am going to check the governor next
many years ago on an Audi 4000 with a similiar problem I checked and fixed the governor
I will check that next on this one
many thanks for your reply |

You can do that.
Check the pistion O-Rings, & the 2nd gear brake band adjustment.
if either one of those two are outa wack--no 2-3 shifts. |
