yes, it is a 1974 pan on the 57 body; It was very cool to see the car and meet the guy. And not finding the critter was also good. |

My '53 Oval was in storage for over 30 years. It was a part of a collection that might ever be restored for the museum of the Belgian importer.
The auction was for employee's only, this '53 being in the best condition, I made a crazy offer and got to take it home!

Picked up a 57 Sunday. Was stored here for 2 years, the previous 20 she was in a pole barn. The body is very solid, interior is shot. It has a 1300 engine in it.. now to find a correct 36 HP.
I haven't looked real close yet, but that may be a split hood on it?
Grandson giving her the once over..
Home and stacked on top of my '73 Ghia

Hey Everyone! Here is my recent find! Just purchased this beauty last month!!!! I do have an interesting question for the group! it involves my CA state title I got from seller, which states my VW is a 1954, but had a deep dive VIN (serial) search done by VW, and found out that this car if the serial is as built in 1954 but was sold in Hollywood as a 1955 model. What are your all thoughts, what number is used usually as the serial for DMV records. ??
Thanks again !!! Have a great week!

Warning Warning!
Don't drive it with those cover plates missing around the engine!
You probably know that anyway. :) |

YES!!! Thanks so much for pointing that out!! @Dan22... I have the TINs. This was as purchased... he didn't have TINs, so I had to drive it back from the desert without them...... it was 55 degrees outside.... soooo, figured I was in the safe for the trip. Def an overheat wreck waiting to happen... It was on my mind, but HEY, get this... the guy I bought it from said... "Hey, this thing is bulletproof... you could get in and drive it from here to NYC; I drove it over the mountain 60 miles, the first thing to fail on my 1-hour trip was the speedometer cable/speedometer melted down... only doing 55/60mph. Second and the scary one, about three miles from my house, the front right spindle nut came off, and the second nut hanging on by a thread... wheel off the bearings, which ejected the brake pad (Yes, brake pad. This has old school CARR Brakes from the 80s. Developed for Drags and Off-Roading. Cool design, but a big PITA)
Here is a Pic of the Disks...

1954 was the last year that manufactured date was used as model year so a dec 31 1954 beetle is a 1954 beetle. 1955 models are from Jan 01 1955 through the end of July 1955. 1956 models started in August 1955. A lot of late 1954 model got registered as 55's if they sold in early 55 but are 54 models. My Dec 54 was originally registered as a 55 but has been corrected on the paperwork and is properly registered as a 1954 now. |

Here’s where one of my 53 ovals had been sitting the last 8 years or so up in Alaska. Had no rear end in it so got it jacked up put in a rear end and pulled it out of there. From paperwork in the car looks like it had been in Alaska since the early 60s or so.

My 55 as found in 1992 and was able to bring it home in 2015. Was owned by a family friend who did not want to part with it. After he passed his family offered me the car. Unfortunately it was the only car I could afford at the time. He had 20 to 30 cars on the property. This 55 and the double decker bus Skinner bought were really all that was good.
You can see the back of Skinner's double decker bus to the left. These were on a family friends property.
