Hey Euphgirl,
Auburn is in the Sierra Foothills, not the Antelope Valley (which is in the high desert area above the San Gabriel Mountains). I'm sure Ray is a great mechanic though.
BTW, I love the pictures of your's dad's bus. You must have some incredible memories from cruising/road trips growing up. It doesn't sound like it will take too much to get it back on the road. I'm also partial to stock as you are although when the engine on my '66 was rebuilt, we increased the displacement size to 1600 (kept the original case and single port setup so it still looks stock in appearance). I also have a totally stock '63 ragtop bug (with original gulf blue sliding ragtop!).

There are 2 shops out here, west coast core in Lancaster(Challenger way and Ave M) and there is Valley Volkswagen in palmdale(6th street and Palmdale blvd) which is better? Flip a coin and pray that whichever you go too, that they got some lovin the night before.
What are you looking to get done? Rebuilt motor? Machine work? Parts? Tune up? Each of them have different reasons to go to there. Where in the AV are you? I'm in Lake LA ive learned a few things.

Read the feedback on WCC before you spend any money there.

I've never bought anything on eBay or anything just go into the store but the parts and do it myself. They did do a line bore and don't have a problem with that. Give me parts let me do it myself, they do tighten the gland nut to the 350 lbs or whatever it needs to be for free. Never a problem. If you dont want to go to a shop, my buddy Elliot is a great guy. He works nights but he can do anything that the shops can do, and at a cheaper price. As well as get you parts. If you wanna get in touch with him, I could get you his number. Just message me. |

We have a local AV VW crew that meets every Friday night at 6pm at DelTaco on ave L and 40th st west. Everyone is pretty knowledgeable and could help work on your car. We even have a No Budget Garage (Robs house), that we all hang out at and work on our VWs. We have a FB page with more info . AV Aircoolers VW Gang. |

Dan, I think the original poster either expired, is waiting at WCC for repairs, or driving to Auburn and is lost. HE HE. I would bet he is now driving an old Camry or ??? Did anyone see his car on the IE Craiglist? Who bought it?
It is our fault the original poster did not receive the help he/she needed. The samba is a kinda 911! Prove me wrong. Thx Everett! |
