While driving to the train station yesterday I lost the ability to accelerate and heard a weird low sound coming from the drivers side. It cleared up about a half mile later and started again as I pulled into the parking lot. I initially thought I was losing compression or something, but did not have time to diagnose as I had to get on the train and head to work. While at work I searched around on the forums and diagnosed it as a fuel filter and fuel pump issue. Once i got back to the station after work the van started fine and I was able to make it home with no issues, but the symptons did resurface about two blocks from my house after going up a VERY steep hill.
So I have two questions. Does it sound like I have properly diagnosed the problem to be a clogged filter or possibly bad fuel pump? Symptons are spotty lack of acceleration, low sound coming from the drivers side. It is not bucking...well not at this point anyway. The low sound only happens when the acceleration/power loss surfaces.
Second question is does anyone know the differences between the two filters I found at Napa. One is part #BSH N69100 for $98 and the other is BSH N69414 for $161...both Bosch. I got the former part number from a thread here and the latter from doing a search on Napa for Vanagon fuel pump. Is one a direct fit and the other require some mods or something? Thanks for any help. |

For others, here is a thread with pics on one of the referenced pumps:

Many pumps will fit but may have different electgrical connectors that original (e.g. screw posts instead of spade/quick connects). |
