View original topic: Correct door pin switch for dome light?
Chris659 Sun Feb 05, 2012 10:11 am

Need help with finding what done lit switch is correct for my car. I ordered the 61 and up switch as I have a 61.

When I got it it doesn't look like it will fit at all. It has a rectangular base with what looks like a hole for a screw to secure it. Mine only has a round hole.

It looks more like a 60 and down switch would fit it but can't find any to order.

I'll steal my wife's camera phone when she comes home to take pictures of my door jam to show you guys what it looks like.

Sounds like you need these Dome light Switches.

Yes! How do I get a set of those? Are yours for sale?

Chris are you sure you have a 1961? I'm pretty sure this type of Dome Switch stop in 60'. But I've been wrong before. Can you post a pick of your trunk area mainly the inspection cover area and also the door pillar. And yes I know where there are a few of those Switch's. :D

It has the large gas tank like the 62-67. I don't know any other deciphering characteristics between the 60 and 61s.

I'll try to post the pictures but I really suck at posting pictures on this site...

Do you have a windshield washer tank. The area behind the spare tire changed in 1961. 1960 shoud have a flat area behind the spare, where the brake fuid resevoir is and you can see the vertical top beam/axle bolt heads.. The 1961 area behind th spare became rounded, and the same beam bolts are now located under the 61 only fuel tank. 61 only as its a flat tank like 61-67, but has no fuel level sensor hole. The dome switches for a 61 should have screws holding them to the pillar. 60's snap in. The convertible lamp safety switch and the lamp are the same.

Ok you described it perfectly! So now where can I find some 61 only screw on switches??

Plenty in the classified. They were pretty much the same from 61 through at least 67.
Ill be the first to say, I could be wrong about some of the 60's model and prior snapping in, but thats what the ones referenced in the photo above appear to be.
At some point around that time they went from a slide in wire connection to a tab connection.
Ill see if I can get derluftwagen or GüteAndTite to submit some information.

Ive only seen two types of switchs the ones pictured above for round hole with no screw and the rectangular ones with lower screw attachments.

I did have an early 61 (aug 60) that had the early push on round hole swiches so you may have a 60 build 61.

As far as I know there are no reproductions of the early switches so NOS or used is your only options. If they are rusty you will have intermittant function, I recommend using the rust dissolver from harbor freight to clean them up.

Oh when you said held in by a screw I was thinking differently. In my first post I mentioned I already ordered the normal 61-67 switches. They are rectangular where as my opening is round.

Can someone help me with the pictures? I don't know how to load them from a cell phone or iPad. Those are my two options for now unless I can send them to someone and they post them for me?

Then you have the "snap in" style as mentioned by derluftwagen and myself.

Just buy one..... IF it ever becomes available. :x

You're not the only one in this boat.

They are out there, now that you know what it is.....
Place a want ad, in the up to 1957 parts section.

From a little research it appears the snap in round hole style was used in the Oval era cars, and up until some point in early 1961 production. (1954-1960)
So place your want ad with a PHOTO in the correct parts section.

They do pop up as well.

Option 2 use a universal push switch that fits the hole until you find the ones you want. Most modern cars use a round hole switch that would work just fine, but may not have the original look.

Here is a post on picture...posting.

Easiest way to post a photo form a smart....something... is place it in the proper gallery, and then copy and paste the link , the one that reads forum code, in the forum post you want it in.
