You can find one here in the classifieds, or any of the vw parts websites, or your local autoparts store can order you one. I just had to order one for my '55 plymouth Belvedere, got it through carquest.

I wasn't able to find the 6v versions at my local parts stores. However...

Bughaus has them in stock: http://bughaus.com/headlight_bulb_-_6v.htm

Not a halogen bulb

So what you're really after is brighter headlights?

I was told by this forum that there should be no brightness difference between 6v and 12v headlights if all connections are clean.

However, I did a quick google search and this website has 6v halogen conversion kits (not sealed beam tho...)

Yes a true 6v halogen....I installed in 2 weeks ago. It even has "halogen" molded into the glass if your in doubt as to what you are holding in your hands. They"ve been around and available forever. I will find the receipt and get a part number for you.

The part number for mine from carquest is H6006 ("H" meaning Halogen).

Heres a few active ebay links as well.

True if your comparing say a 40 watt incandescent 12 volt to a 40 watt incandescent 6 volt. Provided they are both getting there optimum voltage it doesnt effect the light output. The bulb wattage does however. But halogen and incandescents of the same wattage can be greatly different in brightness and i think it has more to do with how "pure" and therefore bright the light is and how it is reflected within the bulb. How many times have you seen older cars with one halogen and one incandescent in them of the same wattage and they are way off. One is yellowish (incandescent) and one is white (halogen).

Just go to local parts house and tell them u want a part no. 6006 sealed beam headlight. Not real sure about sealed beam vs halagoen etc as ovalteen stated with the "H" in the part no

The "H" is halogen. Im was a parts guy for many years. If you want a halogen you need 6006H (or H6006) incandescent is just 6006.

Yes they do put out a different whiter light thats brighter, but theres no reason your regular 6 volt bulbs shouldnt be bright enough either. You need to go through all of your connctions and check all of your wiring. The problem that people have with a 6volt system is corrosion in the wires and on connections. The 6volt system just cant afford to have any kind of resistance in it. So if your wiring isnt up to snub and your connections are crap it doesnt really matter what you do.

Ive driven 5 6volt cars and all have had excellent wiring and all have been PLENTY bright at night 4 of them had regular incandescents.

hello, just reading this thread...

can anyone tell me how these mount??? I assume you discard the original reflector part as well as the bulb?

so... with the above units, are these for 8:20 screw positions? or is there an option to use them on 8:10 too... or even 9:00

I have 2 lots of lights I would like to use them in and the 9:00 rings are my best ones....

finally, The units I have seen all have lens patterns on them, will this work ok with the pattern on my 'outer' lens???

I hope some one can shed some light (groan) on the issue :D

Made for N. American style sealed beam bulbs. So someone outside of the N. American market would need to find sealed beam bulb holders.

Here in Australia there's a company that manufactures halogen bulbs that are a direct replacement for the original 6v bayonet cap bulbs. They do a lot of older car brands including old Fords etc.

Nice bright headlights and it's just a replacement bulb.
