Oil, schmoil. They all leak, what's wrong with that?
Anyways, let me check, 1st gear, yes, 2nd gear, yes, 3rd gear, yes, 4th gear, yes, at least finally reverse works, aahhhh yes. Nothing like a VW with all gears working.
At least the squareback drives right now eh!
JK. I feel your pain....... |

The Squareback came straight out of the newspaper...
... In Toronto, Canada
Super nice, Ev.
Was it difficult to import? My wife and I had a '74 notch that we imported. We were told that we lucked out due to the fact that it was made for sale in the US but ended up in Canada, which made no sense to me, but...
At the customs office the lady was like, "you know you'll have to pay customs on this car?". Me: "customs?,...how much is that?" Her: "twelve dollars and forty two cents".
LOL. I don't remember the exact amount, but it was rediculous. |

It was pretty easy to import because it was before they went crazy at the borders. The paperwork was minimal.
I was helped by some Samba members:
1. Michael stored it at his house in Toronto after I bought it.
2. John brought it across the border for me to his house back east
3. A random advertiser on the site who comes to AZ every year for Xmas with a trailer to buy and bring AZ VWs back east for profit brought it out for me.
I got it from Toronto to AZ for about $600. Cheap!
Yes, the border "tax" was cheap too. |

Stock, nothing really fits well on a Type 3.
I will go back to bias plies at some point.
I also have a complete set of NOS wheels I could paint. |

Here's a neat VW of Canada trash bag I found on eBay in 2006:
I try to collect anything interesting from VW of Canada since it's a Canadian vehicle.
This is cool too:

Finally fixed the rear engine lid strap:
The original had a broken hook on the end. Strange because it's usually the strap that is broken, not the hook. I was looking through some stuff and saw my replacement hook. I found the hook a few years ago, probably like 5 years, ha-ha, so I had my wife sew the new one in place.
A little bit of trivia:
The new hook came from a Squareback that had even lower mileage than mine - 30K miles. The overall car was in worse condition though. |

Lovely Square.
I was bored tonight, so I decided to search for the oldest surviving Samba thread. I think this is the one, barring any rules/faq posts. |
