It's really a difficult call 1 way or the other. The reason I say that, is that it's really up to you IF you like them or not. Not us. I'll put it this way, Sue's Fastback has 8 spokes on it. My 65 Notch has Western's on it. Right now my 71 Square-vert has black stock rims, and the T-34 has painted stock rims. I like the rims you've got on it, but the tires look a little small. If they're the same tires you had on the red rims, they weren't as noticable, but with the EMPI's they are. Right now it looks like it needs to be lowered (lots of air gap between the tires and fender lips due to smaller tires), but I know you don't want to do that. I will say, that you can get carried away with accessories real quick IF you're not careful. :wink: But it's really up to you. If you like them, go for it. You're the one who has the say, not us.

Red is my Favorite color. Plus it gives a little contrast.

Thanks Bob and I couldent agree with you more! I just like to get otheres openions, :D And I get what you are saying about getting caried away with accesories. For now i think I will just go with EMPI period correct accesories for this Notch. Looking for a GT shifter if you know of any. Cant think of any othere EMPI 60"s or 70's Accesories that would look good on the notch. And much to Ryans dilsike I am going to lower the nose a little just to make it even. Dont want anyone to think I'm a snob with my nose in the air. 8)
O yea I think it looks way 8) with the Sprints on it

The back did settle and when I hit a bump it rubs. :( Smaller tires?????

It's a rare car. Keep it stock. Personally, I think anything but stock wheels/ trims at stock ride height looks like ass.

The car was designed that way for a reason. It's very dynamically balanced, and will sit level with two passengers, a full tank of gas, and 100 lbs in the frunk.

Ryan sounds like my kind of guy. Step aside and let him handle it. :D :P

Tram I had no Idea that is why the ride hite was so tall in the front. Gives me somthing to think about. Not even liking the period correct accesories? I thought you might warm up to them a little. But just like Ryan, He is only 12 but very openiated and he wants the stock wheels back on and nevermind the GT stearing wheel he thinks its just so ugly. he loves the look of the stock stearing wheel and the working horn. Not sure what i'm going to do with that boy.
He is looking for a FI master to teach him the ways. He was so impresed with Jim Adney at the invasion he wants to be the next FI master. And he is seriouse about this! Keeps bugging me to put it out there to see if some one will train him.

Yup. Put the correct sized tires on it, and drive it like that for a while. And Tram is right. :shock: :wink: On our t-34, I dropped the nose a little, but running out to Colorado, I found that the extra stuff we were carrying, caused it to sit even lower. I hadn't really thought it would sit that low, but it did. :roll: It was actually a lot lower than I thought it would be. #-o

Notch is running driving and stoping good. Hope to have more updates this winter on the project. Plans are to pull moter and give it a complete detail allong with the front end.

This man spent 9 hrs straight, under the hood of my Notch the first day of the Invasion and then an additional 4 hrs the next day. Low and behold on day 2 she started and ran good. He just couldent get enugh so he came back to CO with his lovley wife and stayed a day with me and my wife in Bailey last week and you guesed it did some more work on the Notch. Not onley did he fine tune it he brought me a gas tank he had found threw his travels in AZ. Cant say enugh about this man and the fine type 3 comunitty. Can you gues who this is?

I know exactly who he is. He's the same guy who helped me fix my speedometer after dinner after spending 9hours working on your car. He also sat at our table for dinner that same night, and I met up with him about 20 miles west of Des Moines on my way out to Colorado. :wink: He also rebuilt the master cylinder on my T-34. 8) I'm sure he's rebuilt a few master cylinders and calipers for others here too. :wink:

Bob, thanks for playing you are correct! It was a short but awsome visit. How are you and Sue doing? When Will you too be coming back out to Co? Like I told Jim me casa su casa. Ellen and I would love to have u. Just ask Jim and Melissa we took good care of them. :D Ellen and I are already making plans to hook up with all of u guys on our way out to the 2014 invasion.

We're doing fine. I don't know when we'll make it back out to Colorado again, but we are planning on attending the 2014 Invasion in NY. For us that'll be a day drive over (6 to 8 hours). It would be less IF we had passports :wink:, since we're so close to the Canadian border (it would in theory take off 3 hours). But, we prefer to stay in the USA, so we'll take the long way, and cruise with friends. 8)

Yes, Jim did mention that he stopped by to see you guys. He mentioned it on the type3.org list ( www.vwtype3.org ).

Jim makes the rare appearance every now and then, but spends most of his time there (type3.org).

I can tell you this, getting there IS half the fun. Cruising with a group makes the journey so much better, and the friends you meet along the way, are the most lasting.

Lol, yea I don't think I have ever seen Jim on this site before. I realty want to drive the notch but we Will see how far along it is by then. My goal for now is to get it ready to drive to the classic next year. I figure a 16 hr drive to callie would be a good road test. Plus I have friend along the way if I don't make it at least I have VW supper along the way. Plus all my family lives in Orange county so I Will have supper once I get there. I think after that trip next year I Will determine if she is ready to make the trip to NY. If there are problems that I can't fix we Will just fly in. After all you are the one that told me its about the people. 8) u

A good long road trip will help, but even some shorter ones of an hour or so will help more, as you get a better feel for what's going on. In my case, it's usually a drive in the spring to the Michigan Vintage VW festival, as it's a little over an hour away (1 way). I figure IF the car will make it there and back without any issues, then it's time to stretch that distance. Also, doing a lot of short hops or around town will help too, as you get used to certain sounds, and get in tune with it.

A good example of this is my 65 Notch that I drove to the 2004 Invasion. The car is my summer daily driver, and I'd been using it everywhere. Then 1 day I took it (with Sue and a friend) over to another friends house. It started acting up, so I knew I had a problem. This was 4 days before we were going to leave for Hershey. :shock: I then spent the next 3.5 days chasing everything engine related (including re-adjusting the valves), until I found that the coil was going bad. Replaced it, then put everything back like it was, as I had swapped the carbs, the distributor, the wires, and the fuel pump, trying to find the cause, as I wasn't sure what it was (didn't think it was the coil, since the car was still running :o ). I finished up around 9pm, and a buddy stopped by, so we were still drinking until well after midnight, when we had to leave @7AM. :shock: A little hung over, and a little tired, we rolled out, met up with John J., Jim Adney, and another guy in Toledo, then headed to Hershey, with no issues, other than adding a 1/2 quart of oil. 8) But, IF I hadn't been driving it everyday, I wouldn't have known I had a problem, until it was too late to fix, and it would have probably been along side the Ohio turnpike when it died. :evil: That's just 1 example, but it does tell me that the car should be driven, and driven as often as possible before doing a long road trip.

Jim does get on here, just not very often. But then, he's like Tram...a stock only guy. :D

But YES, the Invasion IS about the people. The cars are just a bonus. :D However, there are some diehards out there that just feel it's better to drive their t-3 to the Invasion, no matter how far away it is. 8) After all, that's what these cars were made for, to be driven.

PS, you might want to find out why you're getting multiple posts up, and maybe delete some of the extras. :wink:

I'm going to do my utmost to drive her as much as I can. My comute to work in Denver is about an hr so I Will start there as soon as I get the breaks done. When Jim drove the care the clutch pedal was way stiffer then he normaly feels so this winter the goal is to drop the moter. Lean it up and replace all lines and install new throw out bearing, pressure plate, and clutch. I Will get as much road time as I can. Thanks for the advice. It's going to be crowded in that little notch with Ellen, Ryan, and myself pliers tools and spare parts o yea and lugage. I do most of my posting from my phone not sure how all those double post happen, Thinking butt poeting. Lol any way whoever cleaned them up for me thanks. Leo
