From this video, or anyone that was there, anyone have any information on what type of prototype or coach built this is?

Looks like a great time. Planning with the wife for this trip in 4 years.

Hi,

this is a Porsche 356 bodied by the Swiss coachbuilder "Beutler".

Thanks. I did a quick read on it, pretty interesting.

That is not completely true.

Yes it is a car build by Beutler, but this one is build on a VW chassis and not or a Porsche 356 chassis.

During the period between 1953-1958 Beutler build 28? VW based 4-seats cars. It is believed that 3 of them were convertibles

From 1958-1962 Beutler build six 4-seater 356 Coupes and one Cabriolet.
For the porsche cars: http://www.typ356.de/beutler

Beutler also converted some beetles to pick-up's or other utility vehicle.
Here is an overview of 7 remaining VW based Beutlers 4 seaters. The Yellow car is one of them.

For those who missed it in Hessisch Oldendorf, here’s my photo impression of the KdF Schwimmwagens in action on the river Weser. No less than 155 Images of the moment of launch at a military base near Hameln, the cruise on the river and the landing at Grobenwieden. Enjoy :-)

Any idea when this show will be in the magazine and what mags will it be in. I went to it this year and wow what a great show,

BulliBill Thu Sep 19, 2013 3:36 pm

You guess is as good as mine. I was there too, and I happen to be a monthly columnist in Hot VWs magazine here in the States. Hot VWs as far as I know had no one at all assigned to cover the event for them, but they did send Dean Kirsten the next weekend to cover the European Bug-In #5 for the magazine. Go figure! In my "vintage-oriented" opinion, Hessisch-Oldendorf was the better of the two weekends to attend, but both were EXCELLENT for their own reasons!!!

I'm covering the story of our vintage vehicle touring to both events plus some other activities in a three-part series in my "Transporter Talk" column in Hot VWs. I hope you guys enjoy it. I doubt they will run any photos in my column, although I did send some nice ones it to the magazine. Not much room in a two-column article each month.

Speaking of the H-O event, we drove there in Bob Van Heyst's huge and well-organized BBT caravan to H-O. As we arrived into town on Friday afternoon, we were lined-up and waiting to enter the old part of H-O through the normal vintage vehicle entry gate. About 300 old VWs in a caravan arriving all at once caused quite a cool-looking back-up!!!

The next morning as we ate breakfast in our hotel in nearby Hamlen, someone came in and showed us the cover of the Saturday morning newspaper.

Right there on the cover of the newspaper was myself driving Bob Van Heyst's gorgeous "original paint" 1958 Deluxe 23-window "Double-Door" walk-thru Microbus that he so graciously loaned me for our two week vacation around Europe! I almost "spittaked' my deliscious latte all over the linen table cloth! My passengers were Brian Holcomb up front, his son Carson in the back and that is Tom Janiszewski standing out of the open sunroof taking photos. Our Texan buddies Roger and Keith Cox are in the Palm Green/Sand Green Standard two vehicles back that Bob also loaned them for our touring.

Thanks again to the Van Heyst's and the crew at BBT for making our European touring and vacation so much more memorable this past Summer.

That's cool Bill, not sure about the dodgy looking guys in the barndoor two vehicles back

Bobs 23w double door is a cool bus and it was good to talk to you guys at Wolfsburg! 8)

BulliBill Fri Sep 20, 2013 7:47 pm

Ian,

Was the '58 Microbus with the father & son Texans directly behind you guys in the Barndoor? If you look at the newspaper photo closely, it looks like a stretched Palm Green/Sand Green Limo!

God! We had us some kind of fun on that trip a few months ago!!! I smile every time I think about it!

Yes Bill, I think it was the three of us in the PG/SG bus behind the Barndoor. It as a little crowded making the turn into the venue. Keith was driving, I was in the passenger seat and Roger was hanging in the back.

What a great time it was!

Hey Undis, thanks for the photos, we were having so much fun inside that old 23 window at the time. We were laughing and probably giggling like little school girls! Thanks again to Bob from BBT who made it all happen! That was a very cool old Bus to drive around northeren Europe in for two weeks...

About the only issues that we had were having to push start it off and on. In fact we are proud to claim that we push-started it in four countries! The NOS 1500 motor that Bob had his crew install in the Bus just for our tour developed a tiny leak from the oil cooler, so when we returned briefly at BBT on Thursday between the H-O event and the EBI event, we tag-teamed the Bus to fix it. Four of us had the new motor out on the ground and field stripped, then we installed fresh, new oil cooler seals and a different used starter that they had at the shop. Led by Ray Schubert, we had it all fixed and re-installed in about an hour and a half, just in time to haul a group of us out to another fine Belgian dinner.

What a great European VW vacation!

I'm digging up this thread because I just finished putting together a video of Hessisch Oldendorf 2013 show. It was really nice to re-live all the action and excitement of this event. So looking forward to HO'17.

Enjoy!
