View original topic: Anyone use a Dometic CF-25 in their Vanagon?

Liking the smaller size of this portable fridge/freezer.

Wondering if anyone here has used one?

Any comments on how nice or not nice it is would be sweet.

Thanks

I picked up a CF-40 on Craigslist the other day. It appears to be well made and it gets cold quickly. I haven't taken it on the road yet, however, as I'm still accumulating parts for a solar setup.

For THAT price, I'd buy an Engel; but I'm too cheap and bought an Edgestar/Whynter - and am the happier for it!

I just purchased this Dometic fridge ($509 shipped). It is 60 liters (2.21 cu ft) and has the duel control for the fridge/freezer. It seems well made at a good price. I have not received it yet but I will up date this post when I get it.

So JDEL you got me crazy excited with that link that I went ahead and purchased one too. Then I realised that the picture they now have is different than your screen-grab... :?

Now they say the part number is CFX-65DZUS but the screengrab is of a CF-080AC110...

Either way they are both well over over $600 on Amazon and rated very well.

CFX-65DZUS

CF-080AC110 (Scroll down to see same pic as RV Parts Country)

Which one did you get delivered :?:

I have the CF-25 from Waeco (same as Dometic) and it is excellent. Low current consumption, and really Cold. But it is small, and althoug its relatively light weight, and takes up less Space, I often wish Id bought the larger 40 (or even the 65). I also have the original Multivan cooler, and I like that it is roomier, but it is not as cold as the Waeco, and uses more current in 12 V operation.

So a cooler With the size of the original Multivan one, with the thermodynamics of the Waeco/Dometic (Danfoss compressor) would be Perfect.

Here's a killer deal on a cf25. they are around. I have a cf18 and love it but the cf 25 seems nice as well.

I have Truck Fridge TF41.

I also own the Dometic CDF11 for short journeys / non camping trips.

Just my wife and I ........

For camping, my TF 41 is very adequate.... Possibly small, but that may be due to us over buying......

For short journeys the CDF11 works fantastic! ...... but I'd never use it for camping, way too small.

I'd give serious thought to your size choice of 25. I'd hazard a guess you will be quickly wishing for more space.

FWIW.... My small dometic is great! Efficient and reliable, though purchase cost per Sq Ft was quite high as is operating cost per Sq Ft.

I've wondered if a modern compressor could be fitted. I like the size, and I can bolt it to my floor, but I never use it, since I camp at a site with electric at best once a year.

Off topic^^^ maybe worthy of it's own thread?
Anyway.....

Isn't the Dometic system Ammonia based?
Relies on heat to circulate the gas rather than a mechanical motor.

Can you easily add a compressor into an ammonia based system?

It is possible to retrofit a DC compressor system to pretty much any fridge or icebox (or make a custom one for that matter).

Lets just say its not cheap though.... Usually the compressor/condenser unit is pre-charged. You then select an evaporator to fit your space, run the lines, and hook everything up. Obviously the original cooling system would need to be removed.

The one I got from the site was CFX-65DZUS It is great I used it twice. At the peak it only draws 58 watts. And it is the duel zone fridge/freezer. I am happy with it.

Thanks JDEL. Mine has arrived now too, at my in-laws. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
