I agree. Anyone in north Texas want to fab some up? It could be a bumper building weekend.

I voted for the Hurst Bumper because I have always wanted this bumper on a split.
Now that I know that I can have one on my LowLight I'm stoked.

Where does one go about getting one of these in Texas?

Its personal preference. not something I would use myself, but not because of any issues with them. I have seen them in person, & if you like the look, you cant beat it. they are exceptionaly well built, and very sturdy, & good quality. project vw stands behind their work.

Hurst bumper all the way. Both the Roo Bar and Hurst have there own styling points, but the shape and design of the Hurst is far better.

[quote="Kirk"]For the record, the red bus is mine. Use the pic all you want. I put the Roo on for looks only, and think it does fine for me, for that reason.

They didnt have hursts when I bought mine, or I might have done that

What kind lowering kit did you use to lower your bay window?

Well, I guess my bus now will be called "ugly" by some here on the forum- but actually I don't care. This weekend I mounted the ProjectVW "Hurst" bumper to my 77 Bay and we really like the look.
No, we did not add it for safety in a crash. We added it because I really think it adds personality to our bus.
Not for everyone, but for us, a nice addition. We are eventually moving to Montana, and it will certainly fit right in there!

There are a few more photos of this on my website-

Nice, looks great!

I mounted a Bush Bar as I was in a crash that killed my 73 Panel back in the early 90s and don't like the spare being mounted up front.

I should have added this in my first post...

Brent at ProjectVW is great to work with. The late bay window version is his design, quite sturdy, and easy to install.

Thanks Brent!

what is that one off of? or is it a generic 4x4 bush bar?

I was thinking about building one, but that looks good

Not sure what it was originally on as I bought it off of Craigslist. The brand is Aries I think.

Not exactly the topic, but here is my take on a Jeep-style bumper stinger. I welded studs to the top of the bumper bracket to mount it.

funny, last night  i saw a local jeep with a long stinger on the front that stuck out about 3 feet

that looks good, I'd be tempted to add some loops on the sides out to surround the headlights off that for some extra deer protection. Those crazy buggers love to jump in front of vehicles around here

Shonandb Thu Jun 06, 2024 10:37 am

I almost bought a bumper off a Jeep that had the integrated Bush Bar on it but opted to look for an aftermarket bar that came in handy last month when a large newer SUV backed up into me.

this 2nd one was a bit too much but

His bumper would have ridden up and over my bumper and crunched my nose if I hadn't had the bar installed. The guy had a back up camera and travelled more than 3 feet to hit me so I have no idea what he was doing not to be paying attention as we were at the local Rec Center & Pool and there were kids all over the place. Luckily no one was walking between us at the time.

the later bumpers would easier to replace with something aftermarket than the early wrap around with the step for sure.
that center bar is pretty beefy on that top one.

you don't see many deer along the highways in you travels in BC ?
they can do some major damage leaping out of the ditches around here

We see a lot of deer in the Interior and have to drive defensively but so far I've managed to avoid them. However, it's the other drivers I have to worry about, especially those with higher bumpers.

well looking at the website for that stinger, adding some loops would give it an angy bus look
https://www.oakesfab.com/shop
it would be cool to have that shop local, and come up with a weld together "kit" of tubing for a bus push bar or even the whole tube bumper assembly.
