Working on the suspension of the Vanagon.
Replaced the Radius Arm Bushings with Powerflex bushings from T3 technique. Went with the softer yellow color.
Also replaced the lower control arm bushings with Whiteline urethane bushings. Also replaced the front shocks with stock Boge/Sachs units.
I used the "Bushing Snot" that T3 sells, it is good stuff and very slick and sticky. Should keep things from squeaking.
The suspension work is not something I would want to do very weekend. Getting everything lined back up was a challenge but it does drive a lot better, took away the strange rocking motion during driving.
New tires as well, went with the 195R14 Hankook RA18 Vantra LT.
Very quite compared to the old Nokian Hakkapelitta CQ's

Just back from a 2,000+ mile trip from Missouri to Ohio and back through Tennessee. No problems at all. AC worked great and the new tires and front shocks/suspension worked great. Good power over the hills in Southern Ohio and in Tennessee. The extra power of the ABA block and 1.8 head was very nice.
Gas mileage averaged just over 20mpg.
Some Pictures of the Southern Ohio Forest Rally and the Vanagon.
Camped in the Vanagon every night except the first night. Fun time
