I am getting ready to shorten my pan and was thinking about making the cut around the e brake and removing it and using a hydro lock? looking for thoughts and ideas pros and cons of either. thanks

I prefer cable-actuated for the following reasons:

-It's easy to pull the handle up a few clicks to help maintain control on steep hill descents.

-You will still have some braking if the hydraulic system develops a leak.

-It's a legal requirement in CA (and probably all states)

Yup, line locks are illegal in PA to use as a parking or emergency brake. It must be an independent system.

Ok that didnt take long to answer. I dont need any more reasons for the pa insp stations to fail my buggy. I will cut further back and pay attention not to cut the tubes. thanks

Have you read this?

The Gute Fahrt article is a good read as well on pan shortening.

The Gute Fhart article is actually based around the VW factories own official instructions for shortening the Beetle floorpan.

You do know that you have to take it to an 'enhanced emissions' station for it's first inspection and a re-VIN, right? You can't title it as a VW anymore.

there's nothing like a 'Gute Fahrt'

I have heard that, the title I have is from the buggy it was bought in NC the number on the title does not match the number on the pan or any other VW reference number. I was told that I should build the buggy take it and the title to that special station and they would assign there own vin number is this correct?

Hey Scooby you're only minutes away from me. I'm in Enon Valley. I'm actually moving soon which is unfortunate. Sbussard is building a Manxter in New Castle. We could have started our own little Buggy club.

Anyway I went thorough the entire PA process two years ago so feel free to ask if you have any questions. I can also recommend a good Enhanced inspection Station when its time.

Hey Adam I worked at Master Cast for 4 years thats in your back yard. well today I cut my tunnel and shortened it. I cut the E brake out and mounted it rearward with bolts so I can remove it for any reason in the future.
