Due to NLA coolant hoses for my very early (3/83) cooling system, I decided to upgrade. At FLAPs I had to ask for a coolant cap for an 82 Diesel. It is not a screw on like the 84+ tanks.
I went with a RMW 'The tank'. I also had to buy a used 1.9L/2.1L coolant tank bracket from the classifieds.
The only problem I'm having is the hose that goes from the water pump to H-pipe 025121108A. The hose was at an angle compared to the H-pipe part. I was able to push it on and get it clamped down but I'm worried about the stress point that I am point at in the photo with a screwdriver.
Here are some threads below regarding/research about this early style setup. Now if a hoses busted in that setup I'll have a chance to overnight it from van part vendors.

it looks like the clamp on that hose is crooked and you may have "overseated" that hose. loosen everything up an try to twist and wiggle until you find a better exit angle. maybe your bracket install could use a little tweak? if you can't get comfortable with it then wrap that elbow up with some heat shrink or rescue tape. a spare hose under the back seat is a lot more accessible than overnight from a sweet vanagon speciatly retailer of your choice. |

I have the RMW tank on my 1.9 and I wouldn't be too worried about that - as borninabus says it looks like you have pushed it onto the H pipe a bit far so the nozzle on the H pipe is gong into the bend too far. Just pull it out a bit and don't worry about it - those hoses are designed to be in a wired shape. |

Awesome! Thank you guys so much. I'll try adjusting the hose and backing it off a bit!
I don't think there is any alignment room with the bracket. There were 3x factory 'nuts' installed on my heat shield that the coolant tank bracket aligns up with. |
