Well, shame for the pictures indeed.... I can't modify my first messages as they are too old but I will host pictures somewhere else and give the new text to Everett so he can do it and pictures will be visible again.

About the bus, the restoration didn't begin yet.
I moved one year ago so I stopped working on my busses for more than a year and will only go back to the garage from next week to finish the 51 panelvan for spring....

So then I can move on to another project. Maybe the deluxe, but more probably my 1950 microbus as there is still too much parts still missing for the deluxe... wait and see

The only update I can do on this thread now is some of the last nice parts I got for the bus...

Like an original 6 legs cargo floor :

An OG paint dash logo with OG mount :

A 50-52 NOS front seat :

a nice early front door:

Nos pillars almost for all around :

NOS barndoor gutter parts

More NOS shits for under the cab floor :

I can't wait to begin and clamp all these NOS parts together on the jig... :P

At the moment I can only enjoy the view of them and of the bus outside of the barn :

Next thread to update will be the panelvan.
I really have to work on it again to enjoy it asap.

Cheers
Florian

Loving that last photo Florian 😉. Having seen the other two in the metal I really look forward to having a proper look round the 50 one day. What a nice little collection 😀 Nice one dude!

I bought many parts since the last update (3 rows of original upholstery samba seat with early leather pippings, NOS metal, NOS rims, corner plexi windows, original deluxe bits,... etc etc)
The puzzle is now very close to complete, but i am still looking for a NOS pair of fat lip doglegs (4 pieces if possible). Anyone can help ?

I also still need :
- NOS center belly pan
- NOS LHS B pillar
- All vent trims
- Beauty rings
- floor mats

Any tips welcome :D

Hows progress coming on this Florian?

is there any way we can get all the old photos restored!?

Lazaa Tue Jan 07, 2020 12:16 am

Hello,

I decided that my expectations for the bus are now too high to weld it myself. I can't accept any imperfection on the body work and even though the fact i will use only NOS or nice original metal section will help to reach this goal, I prefer to give the body to a killer welder so i'm 100% sure to be satisfied with the end result. I think i'm not skilled enough to do what i want to do with the bodywork. So, I'm in discussion with a serious guy and I hope to send the bus to him very soon this year. :D

This should take 2 years. During that time i will prepare all parts, drive trains, engine...etc ... to be ready when I have the body back from the welder so I hope to have it done in the next 2-3 years. Would be great if it could be done for 2022, for the 70th anniversary of VW Canada but that's very tight now.... let's see what happen !

By the way, I am very tempted to edit a book about the restoration. I will do one just for myself that's for sure, to record all the work done during all those years and keep good memories about it..... or maybe should I make it a bit better and make it available for everyone if there is interest :?: :!:
In that case I would detail all specific details, NOS parts finds, body and parts rebuilt, and lots of studio photos... A bit like the book about the VW38 beetle or the 41 KDF..... That could be a nice project for a bus which deserve it IMHO

About the photos, the post is too old to be edited so I should send all new texts for each answer i posted with new photo links to everett so he can replace the old ones with new one with updated links but this is a bit annoying...
==> Everett can't you just remove this feature that avoid to edit old topics ? At least for a week so i can edit all links myself then you put it back :D

count me in for that book on the restoration please ! the split beetle books you mentioned are a superb source or just to thumb through for entertainment for real gearheads. Little to none is available for real bus afficionados, let alone Barndoor enthusiasts. I am just sooooo fed up with all the stupid bus books, all of which show the same type of hippie campers or slammed on Fuchs with a coke cooler on top type of transporters.
a REAL book about a REAL bus would be much needed. please count me in. €100+ like the kdf41 book- no problem.
I am sure you will come up with an excellent, if not mindblowing publication! 8)

will be interesting to find out about your choice of welder.

sled Tue Jan 07, 2020 8:15 am

please publish a book!! and maybe include an optional large photo/poster like the KDF41 guys did? I bought one and it looks very nice in a professionally done black frame and matting

Cant wait to follow along with the reconstruction :D :D :D .

another special Canadian '52 23w will be being rebuilt soon as well

TRS63 Tue Jan 07, 2020 1:13 pm

Count me in also for the book :D

Djoul Wed Jan 08, 2020 12:57 pm

in French the book, hein

Lowdown Dirty Rat Thu Jan 09, 2020 4:26 am

I’d definitely want a book. Not as keen as some of the others on a €100 price tag though

TRG Thu Jan 09, 2020 6:52 am

Yes on book!
