My brother and my mom, circa 1984, with his mouse gray '64. KAN 853 was towed to a salvage yard when my brother semi-abandoned it. My little sister paid to get it out and drove it for years. She sold it when the brakes went out to a crackhead couple who had it parked, covered in pine needles, for years. The bus moved away when they left Los Osos. Wonder who has it now? |

^ ^ "Eichamt" is the government bureau of measurements and standards. W license plate and plate color is probably Vienna, Austria (W is Wien, how Vienna is spelled in German; pronounced "Veen"). Eichamt would sound like "I shumpt". |

Early powered LP VW? It doesn't quite look like a notchback, but maybe it is? |

My friend in Arlington sent me another photo of his 1960 Standard in 1969.
What he said:
"When I first moved to Washington in June 1969, I bought a 1960 VW bus with 3 windows on each side. I did the interior, had it painted and drove it for 6 months as it was breaking down faster than I could put it back together including the master cylinder and the transaxle. Purchase price $300. Sold it for $1150 to a girl named Ducky who drove it to Mexico. Never saw her or it again. Fun times...". |

It was a '67 panel Turkis - This is the day I bought it. Brunswick, GA 1974 - I sold it in Santa Barbara in '76 when I ran out of money. I have been trying to get a response from the GA Dept of Motor Vehicles to see if I can get the VIN# to try and trace it down. |
