I missed that the Bus on the right side was a 15-Window but I think someone was saying that's just a roof-top tent so hopefully no hacks. It could have been a real sunroof 15 window with a hacked tent conversion  |

This is my '66 that I had just bought, it was 1971 and I drove it to Florida from Chicago with a new girlfriend (actually, we are married now). Only mishap was a starter going out, found a used one at a junk yard.

Yes, I think about that a lot with all of the bugs and buses I've owned over the years. That one was only 5 years old but pretty beat when I bought it from a tradesman. I probably only paid a few hundred bucks for it. Back then, I wasn't driving these things because they were "cool VW Buses", never even though about that, it was because they were cheap boxes that held all of my art supplies and were easy to fix!
But, yeah, the front windows were caulked because they leaked, the middle seat was missing and if there was a driving rain, it poured in through the top vents. Good times. |

Was painting bus bumpers black a thing back in the early 70’s ?
My 65 Westy had the black bumper treatment when I got it and also the metal around the lower 1/3 of the windshields is blacked out.
