Is it possible to remove the engine and transmission coupled together as one piece?...Or does the engine have to come out first?...I just want to clean things up and scrub the engine bay...having a freshly painted engine/trans combo is the plan...everything is working well now...just a bit grungy....I'll be separating them once they are removed, if that is in fact possible to do. |

you have to pull the engine separate....
once the engine is out, you can pull the trans.
I did the same thing a few years back and it wasn't bad. |

pull the muffler, then the engine. it makes it easier to remove without scratching the underside of the back apron.
the engine is easy with a floor jack under it... use a little plywood to distribute the weight between the jack and the oil pan area.
the engine will slide out the side behind the back wheel easier than trying to lift the car up high enough to slide it out the back apron.
the trans comes out after you remove the shifter linkage, the swing arms and then the mounting bolts.
while you have it all out, spray the underside of the engine bay/transmission bay area with engine cleaner and pressure wash that area as well. Then kill the rust, spray zink primer and several coats of a rust killing finish paint. |
