That Syncro would be mine as well. True story too. One of the best VW adventures I have had next to the Tristar discovery~
And McCheese, I ran a VIN check on your dad's old VW and it says it was last registered in NJ
Title: New Jersey 01/20/2009 000183915 Miles
Lots of miles but she still may be out there. And thats not a CARFAX (which might tell you a bit more than my reports).
Good Luck~

the actual story of how freddy acquired the tristar - the real story, not the one he told and that you recounted - is pretty interesting, so it MIGHT make the telling better, but that would depend on your point of view. it's obvious now that freddy was the one doing the story fabrication, but whatever, he has his reasons. maybe some day robert sparks will show up in this thread and tell his part and fill in the provenance of this rare vehicle.
SuperVan - did you find a car show placard under the driver's seat of the tristar from the great canadian bug show circa 1991? i did, and i left it there in the vehicle. i doubt freddy would have removed it. |

Gosh.
Ok. We can go with your version. I can't tell you if that is the truth or not because that is not what I was told. If that comes to light, I will pass it on to the new owner so he can tell the story from that angle.
And, Scott, what I was ever so lightly trying to refer to is that our friend sadly has the onset of the 'A' word. He has a doctor helping him with it and he has good days and bad days. So I am sure he was not intentionally 'fabricating' stories. He is a sweet old guy who loved his interesting little VW truck. I did not find a placard but I am glad to know about it and glad you left it there. I will pass that info along as well. Is it adhered to something or ? I crawled all over that thing and only found the original SOLD tag from the dealership.
As for another turn in VW History... I was just contacted by another fellow who claims to have its twin tucked away safely somewhere with similar mileage. Nice guy. Seems legit. Wouldn't that be amazing if it was true? I hope it is. And if so, I will let you folks know about it as soon as I see it for myself~
