Looking forward to seeing your progress, have a good one!
Haha - yeah. i purposefully purchased in an area that has no Homownership association. My neighbors are probably not thrilled about having this beast, but I care not. if they only knew how thrilled I am to have this body off opportunity. those that are close know of my excitement and take the eyesore with a grain of salt. (eyesore to them...that is).
Update: finally got the yard done - Next weekend I am going to tackle prepping the pan for bed liner. |

I recommend Master Series primer and paint on the pan. That is what we are using and it is awesome.
I recently rebuilt our 65 sterring box and posted about it. Try searching for it. I believe i listed what grease to use, and the seal part numbers. They may be a bit different for 66, not sure.

Keep us updated....I started mine not too long ago and it looks like we are in about the same place.
It amazes me just how active the community is in getting these little cars back together....before I did american muscle and other small cars from europe and england....so much more going on in VW land.
After I finish this one I want to do a Ghia. |

Why not bed liner? Pro's and cons - anyone? |

Please post them here... |

Bed liner seems like more of a baja direction, so you can rinse it out and have a rugged looking floorpan.
Original was paint, many people use powdercoat for durability. Master Series or POR 15 is a great compromise to both. It's very durable, inexpensive ($100 to cover the entire pan), and easily touched up (unlike powdercoat).
Most store bought bedliner has a history of peeling and flaking...

We used bed liner paint on the bottom side of the floor pans for Herbie. I did have some pealing issues but I think I did a bad job prepping it. I touched it up and never had the problem again. It's also a good sound deadener. Oh yeah it is also bomb proof, watch the stuff they did on Myth Busters;) |

Yes, Dudette it what my brothers used to call me. (I have always been quite the tomboy). Anyways . . . I am now somewhat retired so I have more time for Stute. I also have a '66 daily driver (Madonna). I am prepairing to bedliner the bottom of Stute in mid October. Meanwhile, I am rebuilding Madonna's heater system. I anticipate Stute to come to life in 2015. |

I have had some heart/health issues and put Stute on hold while I concentrated my time on the garden and convalessing. I know it has been a long time, but that will soon change, as I have been told by my family that I can NOT go back to work until the pan is rolling again. soon as I can walk again, I will be in the garage. I give it first of the year. Hopefully sooner. Anyone have pointers on rebuilding the steering box? |

Hey take your time and don't push it. Get well first. there is always stuff you can do that aren't as physical on it. I did a bunch of wiring stuff and interior fixes back when I sprained my ankle. I did accomplish a lot that way. |

I agree. If your project is anything like mine (and I'm confident it is), there are a TON of things you can do while you're on your way back to recovery. Good to hear the dream is still alive! Get well soon.
As far as rebuilding the steering box, I have yet to find a rebuild kit. Seems to me that it should be a kit that's readily available.... |

Sorry to see that health issues have made you decide to sell your project.

I hope your health issues improve and Stute The Wonder Bug finds a good home. You're asking a more than fair price. Best of luck to you!! |
