Well, it'll always wear the number on the plate that identifies it as a Westerner. But since the whole deal of being a Westerner are the colors, then you would be robbing the Bus of what makes it special!

I would say for sure 100% that down the road, it would have much less appeal to someone who wants to buy a Wild Westerner than one that is still wearing it's beautiful green paint.

I would say, it's your Bus and you can certainly do what you want with it and what makes you happy. I have added a couple systems to my Wild Westerner that weren't available in 1973 (2.0 motor with VW Fuel Injection, 091 Transmission, and BA6 heater) along with a few other minor changes. So it certainly is not all stock anymore.

But, due to the rarity of the unique paint/stripe combination, which is really what makes a Wild Westerner a Wild Westerner, I'd personally hate to see it changed. It doesn't seem like it would be much of a Wild Westerner anymore if the colors were changed. Then it is just a 1973 Bus with a funny paint code stamped on the M-Code plate.

But that's just my thought.

If you really want a different-colored Bus, may I humbly suggest you sell this to someone who wants a Wild Westerner, and pick up something else? I'm not trying to be pushy or tell someone what to do, I just hate to see one of these "lost."

Not realizing he was unaware of the celebrity status these critters have.

However, I realize that south of the border you guys have an artistic flair that I like in most cases.

Some may disagree with what I'm about to say but if you were to relocate the blue belt that separates the upper and lower colors maybe dropping the blue to the front to the bumper and raising the blue in the rear to diagonally go on the roof or just below the roof gutter on both sides, that would be cool.

Or just behind the drivers door have the blue diagonally go up to the rear roof across the back back the same on the other side.

Whatever you do please use the original colors for The Wild Westerner is now an International Celebrity with members now in 8 countries.

There were no changes to The Member List in September therefore I will not post it this month unless requested to do so.

Bill not sure if this changes anything but I noticed my vin numbers last four digits is 4842 not 4832. I was comparing your sticker with your list then my registration. I was able to find the owner and make contact with the one that sold our Bus to the previous owner. Apparently he purchased the Bus in Boise Idaho 7 years ago and it was black when he bought it. I posted some pictures to share.

Spray the certification decals with Clorox Cleanup and the numbers should wipe off.

I am doing research to see if 2232 204 832 really exists or did i screw up.
It will take a while.

Hi VW lovers

I recently bought a VW T2 1973, and after a little research I discovered that I have a Wild Western Safare model. The previous owner did a paint job, but the beautiful colour of the western is still there! So I'm gonna strip the paint and get it back to its OG paint :)
Here are some picstures (the bus is under renovation)

Btw, what's the story of this model? Did anyone ever figured that out?

To answer your question abt the origin go back two pages in this forum and read through.

Do we have anyone in Pleasanton California or Danville Californa that could follow thru with R C Johnson theory? .
What would be ideal is if we had a letter giving us details as to the origin of the Wild Westerner as well as the number produced. Also if any brochures and list of serial numbers would be fantastic.

Luca is an official member and represents Denmark.

Don't know the origin.
(Just like I don't know the origin of the Wild Westerner.)
I first heard the saying 50ish years ago.
What it means to me you are messing up if you don't listen to me.
(in regards to knowing you have a Wild Westerner and changing the exterior color)
I have less time left on earth than I have been here already and do want any enemies when I leave.

Most of everything I was taught in high school history classes has now been debunked.

Do we have anyone who is willing to help contact the family of R C Johnson in Pleasanton California in regards to origin of the Wild Westerner ?

Also mtcamper and gstone reported Wild Westerners listed on page 245 of this forum Wild Westerners for sale but I do not see a way to contact the owners.
Any help?

I have had this bus for around 10 years. From what I understand .... have been told... read.. etc... there were 155 made in 1973... there is a 1973 “Wild Westerner” club in California. When I checked last there were 65 registered buses. This is one of them.. the bus starts right up no problem... idles like a champ ... goes... and stops... the engine is covered with new parts. This is a great bus that needs a good home. I am showing one Wild Westerner in Arlington Texas and certification decals issued.
No certification decals show up in the photos hopefully a decal is installed near the m code plate.

Dave looks like marriage has been a rough road for you .. Hang in there brother as the years pass it only gets better.

I don't know where these guys are coming up with number produced. It would be great if they could produce verification to support their claims. I would love to know the actual number so we would know how many are unaccounted for.

If I could get volunteers to help locate family members of the R.C. Johnson Company in Plesanton California then I feel we could solve the mystery of the origin and number produced.

How to identify a Wild Westerner if it has been repainted different colors. Go to the m code plate the identifying numbers are 736. The m code plate is located inside the bus behind the driver’s seat on the short metal wall. It is about the size of a credit card. Note: the tag in the door jam is not the m code plate.
