A few weeks ago, we met the German Car Club of Kansas at the Midwest Dream Car Collection and after touring the museum, stopped by the local shave ice place. That's where I first considered the idea of a Wild Westerner-themed shave ice.
And the idea to sell shave ice ourselves was mentioned, partially as a laugh. Talked about how we could hire our 14 year old, as he was having a hard time finding any places to work around our small town.
(Years ago, I used to work with friends selling cinnamon roasted nuts at things like festivals and such, and recalled talking about how shave ice and snow cones would be a good product.)
Anyway, we went for it! Finally purchased the shavers this past Tuesday, then scrambled to get the rest together to set up at a horse show my wife was already planning to ride at this weekend.
The show ended up having fewer participants than anticipated, but per the crowd we did decent business and I learned a few things.
Our specialty treat is the Wild Westerner, which is a large cone with half lemon, half lime, and a blue raspberry stripe down the middle.
In fact, our very first customer ordered the Wild Westerner! (Covered her eyes because she's a minor and I didn't talk to her parent for permission to post her face.)

That is really cool. Nice job making it all come into reality from a basic idea. |

Actually... He's been a long-term foster placement with my wife and I, and my parents before us. But, as it turned out, late in the night where we first talked about the idea, he had a major blow up and he decided he didn't want to live with us anymore, so he's currently at a group home. We're praying and hoping for a change of heart and that he'll want to come back at some point and he can work for/with us.
Despite that, we're doing our best to not let that get us down, which includes still following through with the shave ice idea! |

Hope you’re doing well Bill!
Absolutely, just ran into some financial set backs the last few years and couldn’t spend any money on the bus. Back on our feet and hopefully can at least get it moving. We will be forever owners since it’s been in our family since 76, they would kill is if we sold it.lol |

Hello Everyone
I am in search of a volunteer who will take over our member list.
I can no longer do it and Dave is slammed and not able to do it as well.
If someone can go back in the forum to the last member list posted copy and edit with new members then repost it would be great.
We can help with new member info.
These critters are still popping up from time to time and we need to document them.
The Green Wave is still alive. |

I'm completing renovation of a 1973 Wild Westerner Highroof Safare' Custom Camper including new engine, brakes, carb, wiring, etc. and entirely updated interior. Someone told me I should not repaint but original paint is clearly 50+ years old and doesn't seem to go with all the "newness." Any advice would be appreciated. |

Hello David
You will get many different opinions however mine is depends on rust if it is minimal then I would say buff it out. If you have significant rust, then I feel you should paint. If you would like to post some pictures here, you may get some better advice.
Do we have your Wild Westerner registered?
If not also post a picture of the m code plate located behind the driver's seat.
Slide the driver's seat forward and you will see a metal tag about the size of a credit card on the metal wall.

I would strongly advise against painting that. That original paint looks really strong, and the body has very little rust. If you do the rust repair under the windshield, a good paint guy can match and blend fresh paint into the area.
Nice, solid looking Safare camper you have. Was any of the original camping interior intact? |

Unfortunately no, it was left out exposed to the elements for years and was completely rotted. We literally had to remove everything. However, we did add back a fold out bench seat that turns into a bed; panels up above that turn into a second twin; sink with water; and gas stove with attached undercarriage propane tank very similar to the original. Still need to add inverter and roof mounted A/C. |
