Interstate had a huge amount of parts. I have purchased many parts from them without problems. I know they ship all over the country. I would certainly feel comfortable giving them a shot.

I was happy with the 40 hp & rods from him. He was good in answering my questions & sending me lots of photos before the deal was made. Despite the thugs in the postal service best efforts to apparently beat the snot out the box, the parts were well packaged & arrived undamaged.

Don't know the gentleman you are talking about, but I have known owner Jim Lucca, and his wife Diane, since they were a small junk yard near Carlsbad Raceway, in Vista, CA. While once or twice I thought the price for something was a bit steep, I also have gotten more than my share of bargains from him. Also, he sometimes has parts made out of that special VW alloy, called "unobtanium"

You need it.
He has it.
You need it NOW, not at the next swap meet.
Interstate will have it on your doorstep somewhere between overnight, and a few week's time. (That's usually up to you, how fast you need it depends on the postage you pay)
So, how expensive is too expensive?

I agree with Kafer Dave's asessment basically. However, I have been into VWs for over 16 years (in San Diego my whole life) and have never bought anything from Interstate. Generally speaking, whatever he has you can find elsewhere for far less. If you need junkyard type stuff like a door latch assembly, he may be an option. Nowadays though, with thesamba.com being as all-encompassing as it is, I'd just do a search of the classifieds or post a "wanted" ad for what you need. You'll certainly find it for less elsewhere. I understand that he is a family man and is trying to run an honest business but I don't feel that we need to take care of his needs through shelling out way too much for anything we might need. Last I checked, there weren't too many seriously wealthy guys in the VW hobby.
