Please---do not delete this. I am serious.
I am about to grill steaks this evening over charcoal (the way the gods intended) and I reflected on the utensil.
It is a Weber kettle made in Chicago in the mid-seventies.
My children gave it to me for Father's Day 1975 (actually their mama bought it). It has been outside uncovered year around in Iowa for 37 years now and it still performs flawlessly, the way it was intended. :D |

Mine's a Weber, so it probably pre- dates when they started making carburetors- which are nothing but a gas grill for your engine, when you think about it.
In fact, I have two Webers. They're great! I can't remember where they were made, though, so there's no guarantee that they are uswebers. |

Got you beat, old man. In 1970, my parents outfitted the family for camping in our cool Wheel Camper pop-up trailer. Included was a Hibachi grill, very heavy genuine cast iron, which I still have. Similar to this:
The thing gets incredibly hot, you could forge iron with it. Makes awesome steaks, you actually have to tone it down a bit. It's quite compact, and great for camping.
Now that I mention it, anyone with a Westy would do well to buy this one:

I have a Weber that I have owned for 25 years and I used it for the first 20, then my mother in law gave us this stainless steel grill that uses a 1 lb propane tank and the Weber has sat unused since. I totally get that charcoal is what God intended but propane is just too easy to use...I am lazy I guess. I remember when those Hibachi's where all the rage... but they always seemed kind of small to me. |

Not sure of the brand, but my dad had it given to him by one of my uncles before I was born. It is an orange kettle style, one that you adjusted the level of the coals not the grill height. It also had a little ash catch tray that hung on three little chains. I'm 48, so that BBQ has to be well over 55 or 60 years old.
I have to admit that I don't use it because I don't have the time. Gas is fast, not as good, but fast.

Your Weber is old enough that it has wood handles, seeing the two Webers together reminds me of a black Weber story of mine.
I had a buddy give me a nice black Weber, that I had no use for because I had just bought my red Weber.
I had another buddy that was cooking on a mini Weber, so I gave him this nice black Weber.
He called me back and asked me to come and get it, it seemed his wife didn't like the idea of eating food cooked on a USED Weber. |

Wood handled Weber here, charcoal only.
My Dad still has the Webers from when we were little, they are made in IL (where I am from) and they are made to last.
We need to have a Samba grill off...I can grill pretty decent even for a girl.
Long Live the Weber and Long Live Charcoal!!!!!!!
(ps there is an awesome Weber Grill in Indianapolis, they cook some dished on charcoal on the BIG ranch Weber kettles) |

im rocking a charcoal kingsford grill for when i want to adda nice smoked flavor to my foods. i love throwing some kiawe (hawaiian mesquite is what it is) on top of the coals. delish....
but i need time to get stuff going on that one.
when i dont have the time i have a nice new kitchenaid grill. i wanted the newer 4 burner weber but didnt have the cheddar. so i ordered a nice napolean 3 burner w/rotissere for 650 and was stoked iuntil they called and said itd be 400 to ship it... the kitchenaid is pretty rad though.all the features of the weber & napolean i wanted but it was already on island (thanks costco) and came with the cover & rotissere too.
if i have time - charcoal.
if im hungry, propane.
i need to plan meals better. and execute them too lol |

There is an automotive connection to Kingsford you know-------it started out as a Henry Ford enterprise.
