The 27th annual Transporterfest was held in Brookline, MA at the Larz Anderson Auto museum on Oct. 7th, 2012. In all my years of running this show and as far back as I remember as a participant, we have never had four barndoor buses at the show. But this year thanks to the great efforts of three local barndoor owners, we got four Deluxes there!

These buses all showed up despite predicted rain for the event.

I think this early '52 was at the 2nd or 3rd annual Transporterfest. Apparently it lost the missing skylight glass on the way to the show, if anyone has a spare...

This '54 camped with us in Salem, MA and was driven from New Hampshire to the show.

The restored '52 in the foreground and the 14K-ish mile original '54 behind it belong to a CT. VW dealer who really appreciates classic VWs.

Thanks to everyone who made the show a great success this year.

i offered $250K of for the ratty '52 and the owner declined. by the looks of that chart, he was a fool not to take it.

the dub push:

this was something that i thought was very cool. the 54 deluxe from italy had the licence plate number etched into the windows.

hard to see but that's what it was.

No you didn't  , that 54 Kombi is worth every cent. I'd like to have her back one day.

Me too! I have Hagerty and their valuation is far less than I have it insured for... I guess they don't use their own records.

Back to the Buses, any interior photos?

Manny posted some great interior shots on Facebook, maybe he can share them here, too? The interior looks like brand fucking new and I believe the Bus actually has closer to 14,000 original miles.

just how could the 52 beat the 54 in the 50-67 class?

patsey77 Wed Oct 10, 2012 2:58 pm

Chris the show gave you the option to be judged I chose not to judge the 54 maybe next time.

Stanagon Wed Oct 10, 2012 8:23 pm

I fixed the mileage number for the '54 in my original post. I think 14k-ish is correct, thanks Buciobatisti.

The judging at Transporterfest is all people's choice, each registered show vehicle gets one ballot. The ballot must be turned in to get your dash plaque, so we get a good amount back (93 ballots were returned, out of 128 vehicles this year).

patsey77's '54 got 15 votes, despite having "do not judge" checked off as he mentioned. His '52 got 22 votes. The second place bus, a very nice '60 Westy got 21 votes and is a regular plaque winner at this show. The '52 was parked in the very first spot of the early bus row which may have been a reason it got more votes than the '54. I don't think people really pay attention when "do not judge" is checked off on the window display form.

I prefer this form of people's choice judging rather than having to find volunteer judges. This also get most of the vehicle owners involved in the judging process. I do have a system to catch it when people vote for their own vehicle, which a few people did this year :( The ballots clearly state "DO NOT vote for your own vehicle".

Does anyone want to share the story of how the '54 has so few miles on it?
