View original topic: Advice Needed! Where to find a rebuilt gear box for my '46

Hi all, having trouble finding a gear box for my 64 split window bus. Does anyone have any advice for me as to where to find one? Also a reasonable place (if their is one!!) for a new carburetor. I was sold my bus told it was a "driver" and nothing could have been more far from the truth. It wouldn't run, needed about 35 mechanic paid hours to get it running strong but still needs these two parts. I can't even begin to tell you how much needed to be done to get it safely on the road (but it looked good!! lol!) Trying to find some good in this frustrating situation…thanks in advance for any direction anyone is so kind to give.

First change your subject line to '64 from '46. There were no Type 2s in '46.
Transmission ideally find someone good who is close to you. Shipping is pricey.
Carburator? Contact Tim at Volkzbitz here on the Samba. His rebuilt German Solex carbs may be a bit more money to purchase than a Chinese Empi but worth every penny.

Second that motion on going with a quality rebuilt Original German carb over the crappy Brazilian and even worse, Chinese garbage.

Did the Bus come to you in a "running, Driving condition" ??
40 hours might be the tip of the iceberg for some Buses......

I bought the corner window camping box in running driving condition and we have way more than 40 mechanic hours in and it is now on 4 jack stands.
