I am looking at the routing of the fuel line and bourdon tube from the back of the tunnel. It seems it is nearly impossible to not have the tube touch the pivot. Perhaps I can tie it back so it doesn't. What is the proper routing of the fuel hose? It seems it could go under the throttle pivot/bellcrank or make a hard turn and go over top of the Bourdon tube. Any thoughts? |

Matt,
Fuel line should be held with a second smaller grey strap with the one holding the e brake cable and go over the axle. The bowden cable goes over the top of the bellcrank. |

Right now the fuel line is held near the body by a cloth strap but its the routing between the tunnel and the strap that I am questioning. I haven't had luck finding a pic of the correct layout yet but I'll keep trying. |

Matt,
Here's a photo. Looks like I should replace that original fuel line strap soon .

Yes that helps. It looks like the fuel line takes the low route down and under. My straps don't look any different. I'd post a pic but I'm embarrassed about the state of the gear box area. I have cleaned off a pile of grease and dirt and it still looks bad. Its the last area underneath to be dealt with but I have a case of Xenit and there is a long winter ahead. |

Matt,
Further to Joel's photo here is one of mine. Maybe a little clearer as it shows the exit for the fuel pipe from the tunnel and securing position for the fabric hanger.
The bowden tube does have some 'sag' it is supposed to, but should have clearance to the the pivot. The clutch cables and tubes can have different lengths depending on the 356 model. Is your tube fitted? Be careful not to kink it if thats not the case. Better to remove the adjustment bracket feed it through and then refit it. ( I think I have the 'sag' dimension for pre-loading the cable somewhere.) I guess someone here knows the easiest procedure it been a long while since I did that.

Thanks Roy. It does show the fuel line going under the bell crank. Mine was routed incorrectly. I have removed the Bowden bracket too so I can adjust it and clean up the mess on the transmission.
I was following a thread on the other forum about Bowden tube. It is supposed to have between 1" and 1 3/4" bend in it. I'm just checking my installation out to see if it is correct. Since the tunnel exit is so close to the bellcrank and the tube is so stiff it is difficult for them not to touch. I might just put a tie on the tube to stop it rubbing. I have had an erratic idle speed problem which I believe to be carb or distributor caused but I am not sure (linkage seems fine). I think the throttle plates are too far closed at idle (Dells) but that is another story. :) |
