Can anyone please tell what color is this? Is it Horizon blue? I think it is an oval era color. According to the color chart, there were 4 shades of blue in the oval years: Medium, Azure, Metallic, and Horizon. And the red interior in the pics - was that standard with this blue, or an option? Thanks.

Images "borrowed" from the gallery, if this is an issue please let me know.

Car appears to be 56/57 so IF an original color Horizon blue. Red interior would have been an option even though it's not listed in the tech section

accually, just the 1st picture, looks like stratos silver, but the other two look like horizon blue. not the same car?

looks like stratos silver. I have seen red in stratos silver but usually blue or light beige. Nice car

Well I think it safe to say can rule out medium blue and azure blue. Lighting in photos makes it tough to tell. To me, more I look at it - could be either stratos silver OR Horizon. It's certainly darker than most Horizon blues I've seen, but a little off (grayer? lighter?) somehow from most Stratos Silver. Go figure.

Hopefully the owner will chime in, but I'm pretty sure that is a CKD Australian car, painted in Australia so it is not a standard factory color

I believe the car is an austrialian RHD. Australia had different colors compared to the rest of the world as they were CDK cars. That particular car was an all original low mileage gem seen around So Cal a few years back. Its more beautiful in person!

Okay, thanks for the info. But the Australian RHD was one example. How about this LHD? Looks the same color.

I think you just horizontally flipped a photo of that RHD car :P

It could very well be the same color. The problem with all of this is I don't know if that is original paint. There is so much variation in mixes, there is so much variation due to lighting in a photograph. It could be Horizon or Stratos, but who really knows - unless someone knows this car, it's just guesswork. A photo in bright sunlight would help as a Horizon car usually appears almost baby blue. But if it's not og, then its a question of what paint was used, when, and what was the formula was it a non og color? My beige oval looks different in different lighting, certainly the color has changed some due to age and I have at least 3 different touch ups - and none are the same. And the red interiors, don't really provide a definitive clue because you could get just about any color combo if you wanted.

maybe, just saying that coloring is difficult to determine as the same car can appear radically different due to the amount of lighting (or lack of), In high light, it (imho) really washes out the Horizon color - much much lighter to my eyes to almost baby blue. In lower light as a previous poster suggested anthracite. I bet that you could put photos of a stratos car, the Australian car and a Horizon and due to lighting effects be unable to tell what car is what.

stratos is a metallic paint and cant be compared to HB or the aussie color regardless of lighting.

It is true about lighting and vw colors, different depending on how you look at it.

As far as baby blue the closest type I color would be 67-68 zenith blue

true enough (why I didn't originally suggest it), but again age and lighting can kind of lessen the metallic-y appearance. But I don't think anybody with decent vision would confuse any of these colors in person - although I bet there would be a lot of confusion with the Australian car (that's a really bad match to Horizon BLue!) - however, online that's a different story. Don't believe me, check out the couple of photos in the tech section for Stratos - those cars (in my eyes) don't look very metallic-y. Some of this may also be due to crappy resolution of the digital cameras involved. But I'm guessing.

Couild well be Horizon Blue,
This is mine in Horizon Blue. The colour can change drastically in different light. In bright daylight, it's almost a baby blue, but under overcast conditions/inside, and appear very grey

Same day, same camera as the clouds rolled in

Inside, under flourescent lights when I first bought the car

I have seen Anthracite cars looking 'like' Gunyah Gray in different light.

It's like a 'battleship grey'

Saying that the LHD car 'may' have been resprayed in the Aussie colour.
