We are planning a move from Chico CA to the Boise ID area in a month or two... we were there a few weeks ago and just loved the area.
I saw quite a few ACVWs... what's the scene like in the area? I assume there is at least one parts store? Any place I should frequent or stay away from?
Thanks in advance! |

Thanks for the prop debtfree!
The BPA is going into its 19th year in Boise- and we get a little better each year. Our annual events draw folks from throughout the west- and the people are well connected wih all sorts of other resources you may need when you move to town.
Boise has a great variety of VW-specialist shops, led by RMF and Mike Allen's. There are at least 4 other VW-only shops within 10 minutes of eachother. We're proud to have our local VW dealership: VW/Audi of Boise as a perennial sponsor of our club. As far as retail, Bow Wow is the store- and may remind you of Car Custom or J Bugs from CA.
You can also get some less biased opinion by searching "Bus Pilots" in the past shows and events portion of these forums! you may just make it to Boise in time for our February Freezeout Cruise In.
Welcome! Bradford
PS- if you have any questions not answered here- please PM me and I'll know or will get you the info you seek.

Thanks! We are looking at moving to Meridian... I'm not too big on joining a club, although I do like car shows and swap meets and such.
Being in Chico, I have gotten spoiled... 90 minutes to Sacramento to hit Bugorama... we have a shop here in town run by two old ACVW specialists that were VW trained back in the '60's. We also have a shop I won't touch with a 10 foot pole that sells parts.
I do all my own work on my 1970 Beetle sedan and my wife's 1968 Beetle Convertible.
The Freeze In sounds like something we will be attending (or able to attend) as we plan on being moved in mid-January! |

I spent the past week in Boise/Meridian... found Bow Wow parts (Actually being in NORTHERN Cali, reminds me of a cross of Bugformance in Sacramento and Economy Parts here in Chico).
I spoke to a cool guy I followed into the Mall parking lot (if you're reading this, your name is on the tip of my tongue... can't remember it right now).
Except for him, man... you guys either aren't used to waving at fellow VW owners or just don't see each other. I'd give the old wave or peace sign and get no love back! Guess things are a bit different there! Here in Nor Cal we're always waving at each other! Well, there WAS one guy driving a pick up truck that gave me the old peace sign, so that was promising!
Anyway, loved what I saw in the way of Bugs and Busses! Gonna plan on hitting the Freeze Out Cruise In. Show some love and if you saw me in my red 1970 Bug, let me know... |

Glad you spent some time here! There are generations of folks who wave- and one (kids) who don't yet get it up here... They'll learn. I think some younger people see it not as a waving to another early VW owner, but rather gesturing to another Car driver- something fewer younguns are EVER recommended to do.
See you at Freezeout! |

KSL Classifieds is a Utah site but people from Colorado and Idaho post there as well every now and then. It seems like all the best priced and best quality Beetles are from Idaho, might want to check it out. |
