I have a 2200cc in a 1986 case with a stock 76mm crank. I am thinking of a stroker crank by DPR. What is the longevity of a welded stroker crank? 100K, 200K miles? How long of a stroke can I go without major clearancing? With aftermarket rods? Thanks. |

It'll outlast the rest. I've absolutely zero experience with anything over stock in watercooled, but DPR welded up the crank in my Beetle from the stock 69mm to 86mm with all Type IV mains, and it's way down near the bottom of my list of things that concern me. I'd be much more concerned about the effect it'll have on everything else than the crank itself. On the Type I's you can go with a smaller rod journal to limit clearancing needs. At some point you're likely to get the thing flexing, but it probably still won't be the crank itself that grenades first. Have you talked to DPR? |
