I was just at Englishtown and got a flyer for the Rare and Unique Slam. What is it??? a show, cruise, is it ashow for rare and unique VeeDubs, etc.?? I am making the trip from Pennsylvania to the Bug Jam so any other VW related stuff sounds good to me. Would just like to know what it is.

For anyone who lives down in the Tampa/St Pete area, where is a good place to stay. I was thinking Clearwater Beach. I guess its about an hour from the show, not a big deal since I'm making a mini vacation out of the deal. So where's good nightlife?

Any suggestions?

i went to florida last year and had a good time. it was a grueling drive it being the maiden voyage of a 40 year old barnfind bus that hadnt been on the road in 15 years. tho i didnt go to rare and unique, that weekend also entails the bulli brigade (the real reason to drive 1150 miles) and the florida bug jam

Hey... I was the one passing out the flyers.... here's a rundown:

There's a bunch of guys down in Florida that had a huge BBQ/Show the night before the Bug Jam. It's strictly an aircooled crowd that I met at the Classic in 2002. The BBQ was a lot of fun last year and it's a great chance to meet a lot of VW nuts and just BS and hang out. There's a great turnout and it's a ton of fun. Over the past couple years they keep adding events to the weekend to make it like the Classic. This year they are holding a drag day in addition to the BBQ and a few other things.

I would definitely recommend going to Bug Jam. It's one of the best shows I've been to. They have all kinds of events during the day like a toy show and an engine blow- overall it's a really nice show. The grounds are extremely clean and it's very well organized.

There are also a lot of open houses in the Florida area that weekend that are worth checking out...

So basically, if you can go... do it. It's definitely worth the trip.
