nice find.

nice find! Early subhatch westy's are rare, but valuable and saleable are a different story. It really depends on the condition and if the bus is fairly complete.

thanks i have known about it for a while now but actually just got the opportunity to do a trade offer on it today

fastwagens Wed Feb 20, 2013 5:40 pm

do you have any more interior pics? It looks like a late '57/'58 interior if it is a westy interior at all. I don't recognize the mirror on the closet door and it looks a little different, but could have been added later. It has pressed bumpers and early 55-57 taillights but a late '58-65 style decklid. Perhaps a variety of parts were used in the 'restoration'?

What is the VIN?

candy60bug Wed Feb 20, 2013 5:46 pm

i can take some more tomarrow their is one small cabnet in the rear that is from a 63 westy but the owner says all the rest of the interior is og to the bus and yes the engine lid has been changed out for a later one for some reason it is for sure a 56 the title and all the vin numbers match i checked that this evening

candy60bug Wed Feb 20, 2013 5:47 pm

the man that ownes it now has had it for 30 years and he is the 2nd owner

sounds cool, I am not aware of too many '56s with stoves but perhaps someone can chime in who's owned one with a stove. Where is the stove located? You are lucky to come across an early bus like this, let alone a westy, enjoy it!

candy60bug Wed Feb 20, 2013 5:53 pm

the stove is burried deep inside the bus lol i can see it but cant touch it lol the owner said teh stove went under the hatch in the roof this is why im posting this up lol im not a big bus guy and dont know a whole lot obout them ive had a hundred or so beetles over the years but never a bus

ricekooker Wed Feb 20, 2013 6:15 pm

Sweet. Going by the front bumper it's a Wolfsburg bus.

vw7266 Wed Feb 20, 2013 6:30 pm

nice find I was wondering when that bus would surface again

KILLERWATT Wed Feb 20, 2013 6:58 pm

IMO having the OG Westy interior is where the value is.

joe56vw Wed Feb 20, 2013 6:59 pm

So did they change out the turn signal switch so the tailights are brakelight now?
If so the wiring diagram formthat year wil not match up since it orignal one had the one brakelight in the decklid

Nice find, a sub-hatch Westy is on my bucket list of buses to own. Really doesnt have to be that early just a sub-hatch. Well at least a small hatch, Mango, OG Westy kit, sub-hatch. Oh yeah and the OG tent too. :D :D
