Picked this up today:


Pretty clean car. Could use better mounting.


I ended up with this whip because the PO was totally frustrated with it . The ground wire came off one day, car shut down, and has never started again. It's running a stand alone Stinger ECU which was checked and found to be good. The igniter has been changed, and it is getting fuel. But it is not getting any spark. So, I need to get the car running first, then clean up the fit and finish of the installation.

One of the first things I'm going to do is establish a good ground to the motor or trans. From what I've read the ground to the body most ACVWs have is not always sufficient for these applications. If that isn't the problem I'll start from scratch and rewire the Stinger. Looking at all this spaghetti makes me wish the car was still VW powered


If I still have no luck getting spark to the coil then I may go ahead and send it to Outfront Motorsports, who are the experts on these swaps. PO says they did the swap, but it doesn't look like it. Oh yeah, the motor: 2.5 liter Subaru EJ25

I spent the evening reading everything on their site. It's how I found out about the grounding issue. I'll give myself a couple of weeks before I throw in the towel and tow it to them.

That's exactly what my engine builder told me when I was debating whether or not to get it. My fingers are crossed; can't wait to see how it runs

Really cool project.

Whomever did the conversion looks from the photos like a hurried, rush job with very little attention to details. I would think twice about sending it back to them. . . :roll:

I would start from scratch with a wiring harness and di it right. It sounds like all the issues are wiring related. I wouldn't trust what the last guys did since it looks so sketchy.

I can't tell by the photos, but does it have a way for the radiator to exhaust the hot air??

that wiring rats nest would be making me nuts

did they seal the bulkhead to the passenger compartment?

I have a feeling the person he bought it off was trying to save money, and do most of the work himself. That is why he didn't take it back, probably to embarrassed :oops:

The car was done quite some time ago. I first looked at this car around 2 years ago, when it was running great. The wiring and mounting of the stinger is messy as a result of PO taking it out to have it tested, and never putting everything back right. There definitely needs to be some better mounting hardware for the radiator. Also, let me say that I don't know how much of this was done by Outfront Motorworks, and how much was done by the PO. He simply said they did the swap. I think it's obvious that a lot of this stuff was not done by a professional.

Nothing is sealed. That's another thing I'll have to remedy. I think i can improve the airflow through the radiator too.

can you fit the radiator and fan over the stock air intake area where the bellows would have been?

That's a thought. But if I was caught in traffic, I'd worry about the exhaust heat rising up to the radiator. Even though I don't like the plumbing running under both sides of the car, I believe those long metal pipes help dissipate a lot of the heat

if you run puller fans, how is that different than running a fan in a front engine car in traffic? just a thought...

No, you make a good point. I'm going to look at it and see if the radiator and fans will fit. Definitely wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

No "give away" front radiator and if you have a shortened sump, no give away 'hang down'. could be very stealth!

I can guarantee you that Outfront didn't mount the radiator. But it shouldn't be hard to improve upon

sweet "project"!! if you could post any pics of the whole set up, maybe how the hoses were run from the radiator to the engine, it would be nice to compare what others did and what not to do on my conversion. 8)
