So I am trying to replace my ball joints and installing drop spindles on my bug and I have a few head scratching questions.

1. When I bought the car the PO gave me the new ball joints. I finally took a look at them and they are bjs for a lowered cars. I am just installing drop spindles on a stock beam and don't plan to lower it anymore. Can I use these lowered bjs or should I buy stock ones?

2. I am having a hell of a time pressing the old bjs out and seriously considering removed the control arms and taking them somewhere to get them removed and pressed in. Is there anything safety wise I should know when removing the control arms. I don't want to get bit by the torsion bars. Or any trick or special way to reinstalling the arms?

3. I am currently using a cheep bj press loaned from autozone, do these actually work for pressing out bjs on a bug? Im probably using it wrong so but if there is any trick to using them let me know.

4. do the bjs have a snap ring/c ring i need to remove? I know on some cars they do.

Thanks in advance

1) You can use the lowered ball joints on non lowered front ends.

2) Once the spindles are removed, the torsion arms are unloaded.

3) The tool from AutoZone does not have the correct adapters for Beetle ball joints. I did this job a couple of days ago and needed to use a couple of large sockets to make their tool work. Check at other parts places. One of the places here has a tool with more adapters that may work better than the Auto Zone tool. I made it work, so didn't investigate the others.

4) No snap rings, press fit only.
