hi All,

Are type 2 or 930 cv joints stronger for High HP (200HP ish) street use?

Are you racing or just a street aplication. If you're racing yes they are stronger. Type 2 will be plenty for a N/A 200hp car. 930s are hugely strong and SPENDY. I've never had any problems with my T1 joints on the street in my buggy (200+hp) but I'm taking a close look at T2 joints for my 57 (200hp+-)

it will be a street application. I'll go via type 2 then. I'm not going to abuse it too bad but I do want the strength for a good shift and reasonable launch.

I have already bought the 930's for my next buggy build. When I had my tranny rebuilt, I had the builder install the 930 flanges on the 091. I am picking the 930 because of the angle they can acheive. I will be running 95 % on the street, but at a lifted atitude with a sharp angle on the axles and the angle will max out a type 2 CV joint.

Thing CV's will get a little better angle than the T2 CV, but the strength is the same.

For a street buggy that has little axle angle, a T2 CV will hold enough to ruin a tranny first.

FWIW... I used to race a VW based buggy on circle tracks...... about 900 lbs, stock 3.88 type I transaxle, 230 hp toyota R engine, big sticky midget tires. All it took was a light brush with the wall or another open wheeled car to to destroy a type I c.v. and trailing arm.

My simple solution was some 1" .095 tubing to brace the trailing arms and Rabbit inner c.v's on both halfshafts. A simple plug and play and I never broke another.

Unless your looking for a lot of travel, type 2 will be great plenty...not to mention a lot cheaper. I'm about two hundred into my type 2 conversion. Double that number and now your talking 930's.

The empi type2 CV joints are excellent 25* max, I have run mine 2 seasons at over 200HP pushing max angles.

I bought my LoBro 930's last year before they spiked in price. I have around $ 130 in German CV's, German Boots and Grease. Another $ 65 in T 1 to 930 stubs and $ 30 in the 091 to 930 flanges.

I only have to buy the axles once I measure them.

The prices now for that stuff is stupid high.
