I've started having some overheating in my '73 Squareback so I went ahead and bought a remote cooler kit. It also has the advantage of having an oil filter mount which takes a standard Ford filter, so that's great.
In trying to mount the thing I am struggling to find a good spot to mount the actual cooler and fan. I tried to find room in the engine compartment but am thinking this is a no-go. I just cant find a spot for it where it's not rubbing an exhaust pipe.
So now I'm thinking installing it up front, but I don't see a really good spot for that. The beauty of the kit is that it has a radiator and fan, so I don't need it to be exposed perpendicular to cold flowing air. I just need a place big enough to bolt it up which doesn't impinge on a wheel or something hot.
Has anyone else done this? Could you recommend a spot?
This is the kit.

Mount it above the tranny, on the cargo floor just ahead of the engine lid. Use long bolts and rubber isolators. I recommend steel braided lines and AN fittings. |

X2 as per ktphil. Mine is mounted there, works good. You will need a block off plate with allowances for fittings. I run an AN 10 cooler and lines, we were concerned about restriction in the lines and cooler. Aaron in the panel forum made that suggestion. Cooler and lines came from Summit. |

Yes, and be sure to leave plenty of space between the cooler and the deck. Air needs space to move.

For those with swing-axle cars, up by the torsion tube works.

69 fastback, mounted above the trans. 96plate mesa cooler empi special from 20+ years ago... i would also second the -10 lines.. but have been running -8 with no issues in mine. run a thermostat that activates at or around 180... helps bring everything up to temp nice and easy and a fan switch that kicks the fan on at 195.... back off at 180.
if i were to do it again, and maybe still will.... I would try to run coolers up to the front fenders and 3d print a stone guard for the backside of the coolers |
