Hi,Guys just a quick one,i know the seat covers in a barndoor deluxe were black with red piping but were they light brown with dark brown piping on special orders,or on some deluxes straight from the factory.

thanks carl.

The evidence strongly suggests seats only ever came in the black vinyl on DLXs.

Lowdown Dirty Rat Wed May 29, 2013 12:17 pm

^^ not so.

Paul wisks was brown with brown piping from factory.

Cheers guys,i thought i had heard some came in the brown, paul must have told me makes sence now.

Thing is im making mine into a microbus as i have all the seats and want 2 get it as near as 2 spec as possible, whats peoples views on the brown as you normally see the black with red?

Thanks Carl.

I think the brown would look ok.... so are you thinking of using the same material on the interior panels and the seats?.... Panels have black piping

carl12 Wed May 29, 2013 2:02 pm

Hi,Rusting

Ive got all the interior panels already done by mike at fabrik 2 spec, when i bought the bus the back and front seats had already been done in the spec brown, but i have the middle 6 legger in og material in brown,so was just thinking keep it all in brown or change 2 the black.

carl.

go 2 carl elliott on facebook 2 see the pictures.

Do you have factory evidence?
Can you specify another one?

Difficult, I guess if you want it to be original then they should be black...

I've seen the remnants of the seat. Clear brown on brown piping and barndoor springs. Rear seat to. I'd be surprised if it wasn't OG to the bus?
Remember wisks has White steering column, gearstick AND handbrake. So maybe a special order?

the boss Thu May 30, 2013 2:35 pm

hi RockStock ,
the mine are already brown.Full original.....

RockStock Thu May 30, 2013 3:06 pm

Really Boss? OK, I concede!

I have seen original seat covers in the tan with black piping, and also tan with the dark brown piping. So either would be correct for your bus Carl.

The tan interior suits the deluxe model best. Just my opinion.

U have plenty of other details to worry about bud  seats and panels are sorted.

while Ive never seen a deluxe with brown seating, it doesnt mean it wasnt offered. I suppose if the options are available theres probably a chance someone requested this in an order.

What I am fairly confident in my seating experience though is that barndoor brown seats used black piping and 55-58 used a slightly different shade of brown material along with dark brown piping.

Although I don't have a deluxe I do have this OG 6 leg middle seat for my RHD, any idea what it would have been from originally, standard or maybe a deluxe?

Drew Ogden Sat Jun 01, 2013 9:42 pm

I have an early RHD seat with "original" upholstery like that. It came out of a South African bus. I was told that it was assembled in SA, kind of like what they did in Portugal.

Do you know where that seat came from?

I bought it from New Zealand Pete who he said he bought it from a guy who had it for ages but the bus was long gone. It looks untouched to me and is in good condition.

If it came from down here it's probably from a CKD bus. We had a heap of interior and exterior colours specific to NZ, probably is original.

which year is that bus ? an early one ?
I can't proove the origin of all the stuff in my coachbuildt Kohlruss deluxe, but I found a lot if not all DLX specific parts being donated by a 51-52 DLX (DLX dash with hump for steering column, original plexiglas roof windows , missing DLX trim on the rear bumper-because a pre 53 DLX wouldnt have a bumper aso) and to make it to the point, the remnants of my obviusly original seat covering
is original VW tan/brown. Means if the seats came from the donor DLX too, indicating another brown seat DLX.

RockStock Sun Jun 02, 2013 7:29 am

Imo the links to a factory brown-seated dlx are a little flimsy so far
Bar Boss' dlx, which is an original Belgium bus...he knows his stuff...how sure are you they are original to the bus, Boss?

RockStock Fri Nov 29, 2013 10:03 am

From carl12, evidence of factory beige seats in a dlx? Nice one.
