I have a 1968 911L I am rebuilding. 80mm stock cylinders are ok but mahle pistons have a few cracks on apron. Anybody tell me what my options are for pistons with the stock 80mm bore? I'd rather not go to 2.2 since all head work already done. Should I be asking a machine shop this question??? Any help, guidance, other would be appreciated. Located in MA if any recommendations on shops.

Thank you. I'm a newbie...

New would be a new set of pistons and cylinders or some aftermarket units, like JE. I'd be scouring fleabay for some used, single replacements myself. I am not 100% certain, but if they are interchangeable with '67 "S" units, that would open up a lot more chances of finding them.

To help answer these questions, get a Copy of (the late) Bruce Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook. Also, check with the guys at the Early 911S Registry BBS.

For me, I would consult with my two engine gurus: Steve Weiner (Rennsport Systems) and Jeff Gamroth (Rothsport Road and Race) for what I should build. Steve may be able to point you a good builder in your area as well.
