Information:
The TS model was the Deluxe model for Canada, 1964-65.

There is some speculation as to what TS means, most people believe it is "Touring Sport".

Basically the same as a German "S" model Notchback or Squareback. Dual carbs., more chrome, etc. but with N. American specifications like sealed beam headlights, red taillights, and so on.

The TS emblem is the same for Notch, Squareback, and Type 34.

Canadian Squarebacks have "Volkswagen 1500 S" on one side and "TS" on the other side, of the license plate. The TS emblems were mounted by whatever Canadian dealer trainee was assigned to install it.

The TS was just a Canadian marketing thing. All the literature I have seen refer to the "TS engine" so they are really just referring to the improved performance of the "S" engine. The badges are not official VW badges.

They are Canadian models, not European models.

For Squarebacks, Canadian models did not say Variant on them, i.e.:

I've seen various cars (like the '64 Squareback above) that don't have a TS emblem so I think some dealers were lazy about mounting the badges.... or maybe it wasn't a nationwide rule.

Not to correct someone that has forgotten more than I likely know about VW's but the TS was available before '64.

64-65 model years so the 64s would have been available in late 63.

Is that what you meant or ?

The date on mine is June of '63. I believe that to still be a '1963 model year number. At least that what I've been led to believe by other T34 junkies.

How's that? I have no clue what it had for a motor but she had a TS tag on it. Original purchase from a VW dealer near where I live. The car was beyond restoration ... or rather I couldn't find anyone interested in purchasing it so now she's in pieces and parts being shipped out as we speak. On that note.... anyone looking for doors, hood, decklid, or roof section?

Well I'm the first to admit when I'm wrong....by the info I just dug up my T34 is indeed a '64 model year. The heater controls are in the wrong location for a '63.

It is however an early '64 - September, 1963. Thanks for asking guys... I hate having the wrong info.

Am I wrong by saying a "TS" had a different engine than a regular "S"? Did just normal "S" cars have domed pistons or was it only "TS" models?

AFAIK, TS and S are the same engine with domed pistons.

"S" models have domed pistons...at least all three of mine did.

i want to make my 66 squareback a TS/S model.. its originally from canada.. i know its not correct but heck my motor is a 1915 and i like the badges..

I have been thinking about this a while and if the the the TS was just a Canadian marketing tool and not a factory or VW trademark then who made the VW1600TS scripts for the 66-69 Notch and Fastback? Like the one in the middle. Was the TL emblem also For marketing or just what was used in other countries besides the U.S. Don't they both have a VW 311 part numbers?

naw dude just link me on instagram next time lol.. but really though $100 is kinda steep.. i saw this before you linked me and was like dammmm.. maybe in a month or so i'll spring for it, but first gotta get 5x130 rotors/drums, and 17x7 fuchs wrapped/mounted... then the TS emblem

I don't know on that VW_1600_TS emblem but it looks like a real VW emblem.

The TL is the Fastback model name in Europe so that badge is 100% real.

Yes, I remember that and the seller it was true but I can't see why anyone would pay that. I've seen them pop up for far less, NOS in the package.
