Just watched it for the first time.

Couple thoughts...

-Dan (the owner) acts like a customer should feel like they won the f**k'n lottery to have the privilege of getting their car worked on.
-There is no way the '66 beetle repair was an $8,000 job.
-Dale seems kool as shit though.

I was especially impressed when Dan explained how the brakes are supposed to work on the '66, to the poor kid unfortunate enough to have his bug worked on there.

"The first third of pedal travel, does not apply the brakes" oh really?...1"+ of freeplay?

Have tried to watch this "reality show" several times,this shop owner DAN is always over the top with his customers,big EGO TRIP! Not worth time time,IMO!!! :roll:

I went over there about a year ago when they were cleaning out some of their old equipment. Went to look at a mill/drill that was overpriced thinking I could talk him down a little to a reasonable range but before I asked or even got close to the machine the guy walking me back there told me the owner was tired of people looking at it and making offers. The price listed what what he wanted and it wasn't open for discussion. Probably should have put that in the ad :roll: .

The building itself was pretty cool though.

Did you catch the part when they were assessing the damage on the 66 Beetle, Dan and the metal worker guy both agreed to NOT use aftermarket metal and stick with German metal. Then you see them using the black painted Chinese fender and apron for the actual repairs.

All new front suspension - $1000
chinese sheetmetal $200
Telling the VW owner he had to choose either disc brakes or dropped spindles to stay within the $8,000 budget - Priceless

From what I've seen, I think their $$$ are pretty reasonable - at least in terms of what I'd have to pay in Nawthun Vahginya.

Dan is a bit intense but I thought the guy with the beetle was being a bit of a douche. He admits not having good brakes probably caused the wreck but then wants the discs changed back to drums.

When it showed them swapping back to the drums, I thought it looked like the spindles where welded drops....As they were removing the rotors.

Keep in mind that this "reality show" is more for "show" than "reality".

They were paid to behave the way they did.

Anyone catch the two episodes Counting Cars last night? First episode had a VW Thing that they bought for $7k. Second episode they fixed up a '63 Kombi and then flipped it for $40k

I find myself getting tired eventually of just about every "car" show out there. I either get to where I can't stand the drama or the shoddy, bullshit work they do. This one is no exception, although I thought the bug turned out pretty good considering. For quality of work on the cars, check out Graveyard Cars. It's all Mopar muscle but these guys don't cut corners. Plus, it makes me laugh my ass off.

Is that show still on silver? Loved it because it was all Mopar, but the whole drama with the new secretary/boss man/weird blonde guy was getting old. I'd switch off until they started actually working on the cars.

Wow, I have seen other episodes, and thought that their prices were way up there, (see my post about their labor rate above), but I justwatched that episode with the 66 bug, and boy did he get screwed. 8k for what they did?? Wow.....

$8k paid by the insurance company. The guy that owned that car was a tool.
