I'm looking for more information on how the radios were mounted in the dash of Deluxe buses. Does any have any literature showing the mounting brackets or how and where the power pack was mounted? Or photos of the real thing? Any information is appreciated. Thanks :D

Thanks Rikki for the photo op 8)

Here's one photo I found of a restored Barndoor Deluxe with radio but I don't know if this is correct or which radio this is. The Bus is the '54 Deluxe that Todd Tessler had restored:

looks as if the radio is held by springs (maybe to provide some cushion for the electronic tubes ?) while an original dash has just the keyhole shaped mounting brackets underneath ( the same for all 3 openings, speedo, radio and clock.) maybe the radio face plate was bolted to the dash and then the unit hung with said springs ?

356 Porsche battery cover hold down clips and springs work directly on some model radios and are easily modified for others. 8)

Everett, Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for. :D

Its interesting that the power pack is mounted vertically against the front panel. This probably keeps the vibrator (the mechanical relay that converts the DC voltage into AC for the tubes) in the vertical position. If it were mounted on its side the vibrator might not work at the correct frequency due to bumps in the road.

Anyone one else have any pictures of the real thing?

Jacks, Thanks for the information. Good to know. They look very easy to modify and use. Thanks!

djfordmanjack, Most of the early radios had the face plates bolted to the radio. One piece radios that could be pulled out of the dash and used outside the vehicle (with a cord). Which would explain the springs with the pull brackets. Making them easy to remove. A bunch of the radios even had handles on the top of them to carry them.

Anyone else have more info? Pics or literature showing them in a bus? Thanks.
