I am putting together the bumpers for my '51 Coupe and I have got a set of a "old" repro alu trim..the grooved version. These were made in the USA 15-20 years ago and have been sitting on my shelf for about 10 years.
These are made of hardened aluminium...and they are stiff like hell.. I am sure the originals were non-hardened and hence could be formed to fit the bumpers perfectly.
So - is there a "new" reproduction available of the grooved type?
Or...do I have to go to the smooth / boring ones?

Thanks for the tip...we tried a little bit of that, but I am afraid we either melt or distort the section... do you have experience with annealing profiles?

BTW: Does anybody know the exact original width/dimension of the smooth trim section?
Is 33mm correct?

Not sure how early or late your 51 car is but my car is around July 51 and it came with the smooth trim I still have them in a box. I have aset of the smooth and the groved old repro trims but havent tryed to fit them yet.

Very interesting, thank you. Could you measure the width of your smooth trim? |

I have a '52 body-bumpered coupe. As far as I know, the smooth trim I have is original. It's width is exactly 35mm.
I also have some smooth repro trim. It's width is also 35mm.
Hope that helps :) |
