The negotiations went something like this:

Mike- "So, I know you were offered $30 grand. I don't know how serious the other guy was. Im here, right now. I have cash and Im a serious buyer. Would you take $20 grand?"

Tony- "Ummmmmmmmm NO!"

Mike- "Well, since you wont sell me the Bus, How's about a ride in the Lowrider?"

Tony- "My Impala?"

That's '63 Deluxe was sold back in Aug 2011 By Barrett-Jackson Auctions in Costa Mesa, CA. The final bid price was $198,000 But after the buyer premium was added, the total purchase price was $217,000

Interesting to note is the builder, David Nevarez, tried selling it during the 2011 Classic weekend with an asking price of $115k

Yeah it was a memorable day. Barndoor Mafia mentioned on national TV was pretty nice.

I got time to watch the episode yesterday... cool to see them flipping out over a barndoor. how many hours of filming did it take to get that little clip... and did you know they were coming before they just showed up at your door....

I watched it last night. I liked the look on your face, Tony, when he was saying some shit about people shying away because of the condition, but he wasn't that guy.

That's the perfect example of dumbassery in the VW ranks, one I always cite when discussing the stupid prices on VWs, namely buses, at this point in time.

Dumbassery and Pickers, why do you sound so suprised?

I wouldn't call that sale part of the "VW ranks" myself, they are now by default but clearly weren't when they were at the sale bidding.

Yay Skim, can't wait till that airs up here in Canada, shouldn't be more than 6 or 8 months :?

Old thread but I saw that this Bus for sale is Skim's old Barndoor Deluxe, now fully restored:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1975464
and
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1976556

Note: The 1st ad was pulled and the second ad was placed today.
I don't know why, maybe the sale was turned over to this company by the original seller.

I spy a "mistake", Beetle distributor on a Barndoor Bus, hmmm.

GTV Tue Oct 04, 2016 7:58 am

Wow, I haven't seen that bus since it was at Copperstate, probably 15+ years ago.

Looks like they have done a nice job. You can find a couple of (minor) inaccuracies. Im surprised at how much bodywork was needed.

I was looking forward to seeing what Skim was going to do with it.
I liked its 'as found' white look. Personally I would like to have seen it put back on the road in a dropped preserved style (yes, with Fuchs).

Does anyone have a link to the video? I still haven't seen it?

Beautiful bus Albert
