View original topic: Help to identify convertible seats?

Hi I got these seats recently and I'm wondering if anyone can help me with what year these convertible seats are? Maybe they are not even for a beetle?

Also, does this look like original fabric (vinyl) and if so what color?

Thanks!

Those are Convertible Beetle seats. Only the Kabriolett models got the metal grommet on the backrests.

Technically, those are for 1956-58 cars as the pivot pin is not threaded for an acorn nut. Sometime in 1959, VW threaded that little pin. But those seats will fit 1956-64.

Looking at the color of your seats, I'd guess those to be 1956-only for a L316 Almond Green car. Here's a photo of my '56 Kabriolett's interior. Original color is Almond Green with the Tan leatherette w/ Dark Brown piping just like what you have

Hi Nancy,
yes convertible style BUT restored.
No orig venyl and this black fabrick under the seat is that the old dirt didnīt fall on the pan.
You can make from every seat convertible ones.
But this guy did a good job, little mistakes but not bad.

I've done some more research and believe this is actually the original, stock seat from an Inca Red 1956/57 convertible and not restored set.

An example is seen here:

This is from the http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5521874&highlight=inca+red#5521874 thread page 154 . You can see the same material on both the rear seat and the front seats.

I would say those seats look like original (so not recovered) oval Karmann Kabriolett seats.

Those are the exact same Tan Leatherette seats that I have in my Inca Red 56 vert. and in about the same condition!!

Yes original covers. The color of the beading will tell you what exterior color of the car was. It looks black to me so probably a black car.

My original covers have a dark brown beading but have lightened severely to an almost tan. Original covers to an Inca Red car.

The beading on mine is Dark Brown. Original exterior color is L316 Almond Green

Old Thread, but I found these pictures from another 1956 inca red convertible we scrapped years ago and noticed more of this same fabric on the rear seat support. Seems to match the material on the two seats we have for our 1956 convertible that was originally inca red.
