did the 67 and 68 canadian standards have a 12v bell housing and a 12v flywheel on the 40 hp?

trying to solve this mystery!

thanks!

I know that by 68 in Europe you could buy a 1200A with 12 volts. The Canadian sales brochures for 67 list the 1200 and the 1500 and the electrical part of the specification is 12 volt so Canada 1200 Custom for 1967 is 12V. I also know that the last European German beetle to have a 6 volt was a 1200L and it was 1975.
The last VW beetle made in Germany was Jan 1978 and it was a 1200 with swing axle and 12 v..

Sorry to revive an old thread, but reading through this has been really interesting. I have a customer with a fairly original '65 Canadian Standard and just purchased a '62 for myself (which has been in a barn since '73). Someone added an electric fuel gauge to mine at some point, and installed a glovebox door with the chrome trim strip. I'm sure the door without the trim holes will be a joy to find!

Indeed, it is very interesting. Most people (even enthusiast) do not know there are for example in 1965 six basic models of beetles. Also, that the "standard" model becomes the 1200"A" in 1965. So here are the six models in left hand drive.
111-1200"A"
115-1200"A" ragtop sunroof
111-1200"A" Custom, European 1200,36hp. Canadian 1200 40hp. both with fresh air heater
113- Deluxe
117-Deluxe steel sliding sunroof
151- convertible

So the '62 I bought ended up being a '60 with the wrong taillights - thankfully I had a nice pair of snowflakes in my stash (as well as the Aristocast badge for the right rear fender! I've only been holding onto that for 30 years).

Something I'm trying to figure out is the colour of this thing. The closest match I can find is L473 (alabaster) but then realized that was only on convertibles. With the exception of the rear fenders and decklid, the car has never been painted. I've taken a couple of photos where the paint isn't faded, with a piece of white paper for reference.

I thought canadian beetles got a few different options. Maybe alaska white? I know its a vert color but have seen stranger things

Actually yeah, that looks close as well too.

I should probably just get off my wallet and order the birth certificate… although I’ve seen a couple that have come back blank in the paint code section.

Every time Ive seen that happen its one of two things

So it's actually jade green. I'd never actually call that green myself, it's the beigest green ever. But anyway - at least I have a paint code now!

(Oddly enough, my former Citroen 2CV was jade green... but Citroen's jade green was actually green!)

Are you sure its not flint grey? We have the exact same car, also in ON, '60 cdn custom/standard and believe its flint grey.
