View original topic: Cross shaft bushing?

Hey guys. I am experiencing clutch/shifting issues. All of a sudden my clutch felt weird and would grind when going into any gears. Also with the clutch depressed you could feel a vibration like the clutch wasn't fully disengaged.

I checked the pedals, cable, and cable tube. All was good and replaced the cable to be sure. Same issue. So I pulled the engine this morning to inspect the cross shaft.

The cross shaft itself looks fine. Not broke or cracked, but it doesn't seem to be lined up right causing my throw out bearing to protrude a bit farther on one side then the other. I'm thinking this maybe my problem. I can push on the fork arm where the clutch cable attaches and the shaft can slide side to side a bit in the transmission housing. Also the bushing on the shaft on the drivers side was splitting in spots.

Does anyone think I just need to put a cross shaft rebuild kit in there to get things to line up properly? Seems worth a shot to me. Here's a picture for reference. Let me know if you need more or any measurements of the gap on the passenger side or anything.

Is it possible that one of the forks on the cross shaft is broken away from the shaft?

may be optical illusion but looks to me like the left side of the tob is further forward, like from a bent arm....the collar on the trans centers the bearing so even if the fork was a little off center the bearing should still be straight

It appears as thought the bushing is sticking out too much. Check and make sure that the screw that holds the bushing in place is still there. A rebuild kit is inexpensive so I would go ahead and replace everything now.

I think the bushing maybe worn causing the shaft to pull towards the drivers side of the car, therefore not allowing the bearing to settle back level. Here's a closer picture. Just look at the bolts holding the collar on. You can see where the shaft is shifted towards on side.

I will order a bushing kit. How do I know where one I need? I see two different sizes on cip? Do I just use a calliper and measure the shaft thickness?

Ok. Got it out. It looks like the c clip on the slide worked its way loose causing he shaft to slide towards the outside. I read on here another person with the exact same issue. So I hope that's figured out.

Now, I maybe have a problem. The brass coloured bushing you see in the picture didn't come out as it should and ended up being destroyed in the process. I'm looking at this kit and I only see a red bushing. Does this simply replace the brass coloured one and what's inside it, or do I need to get another one of those brass pieces as well? Here's the link. Please let me know so I can place an order. Thanks
