Hi im farely new to the forums and I dont know to much about paint jobs...
I just bought a 71 vw camper bus that does not have a good paint job done at all. There is not much body damage ( a dent in the front because of the tire...back does fit all right because it has been in a small accident) and the rust is mediocre.
Anyways my question is should i sand down this crappy paint job [red - original color white] or should I just take it too a shop and get it done professionally....
Me and my buddies have sanders that can sand down the paint but will this workout evenly throughout the bus??? |

If you take it to a shop, it'll cost you a lot to do. Depends on if you have more time or money on your hands  Jeremy |

well i am going to get it professionally painted however my question was should i sand it down MYSELF then get it painted PROFESSIONALLY or should i just get it painted and sanded PROFESSIONALLY????
My basic concern is if i sand it down will it be even all over if i use a normal disc sander...what do the pros use"?? |

Most of the time the pros use a DA, and they keep it moving. You too can buy a DA, and a large compressor rated for continuous duty, and keep it moving. Your time costs you $0 per hour probably, and the shop will charge you $25-50/hr for the same thing. Just get down to the factory paint and after you block out a couple coats of high-build, any imperfections in your sanding should be gone. |
