Hi, can someone tell me if the 6 holes are correct for a 64 small Volkswagen logo.
It looked Original but all the Volkswagen badges that I found had 4 tabs but none of the tabs are mathing with the holes......
Can someone tell me what I need.
The enine lid was mathing to the car and was Original paint.....

I also have a '64 Cabriolet. It has its factory-original engine lid and the correct VOLKSWAGEN emblem. I just measured the length of the emblem along the continuous line along the bottom- it's 215mm long.

The one you have is most likely from a mid '60's Bus, such as seen here. I know from experience that the bus emblem is at least a few centimeters longer-

I also checked the underside of my Ghia's engine lid. The emblem is attached using only 4 holes.

So the engine lid you have is most likely from a '66 and later Ghia which had the "slanted" VOLKSWAGEN emblem. Like this one, from theSamba gallery of an original '66 Ghia-

If your emblem is also 215mm long, then you have the right one, but the later engine lid.

Here's a VW press photo of a '65 Ghia which would have the same emblem as on my car/what your should have.

Just want to know if the 6 holes are correct.
The 2 left ones are correct.
It will be painted within 2 weeks and want to know if a VOLKSWAGEN logo exist with 6 tabs.

Is your car an autostick? They have a "Volkswagen autostick" emblem that goes there

His '64 wouldn't have had a "Autostick" (though the Saxomat semi-auto was a rare factory option, predating the '68-up factory Autostick transmission).

Hi,

The engine lid on my '63 is an older one I suppose (no holes for the Volkswagen emblem). I bought an emblem on a swapmeet but it's 29 cm long (4 pins)... That emblem should be for a bus then?

I was searching on the www where to drill the holes, couldn't find it though... Someone knows?

The Autostick emblem was something done at the dealership. Not all dealerships put them on.

The Autostick emblem used the same mounting holes as the Volkswagen emblem.

passoa, great that you have the Ghia finished! Engine lid looks very nice with the "petite" VW badge. Have you been able to drive it since completion?

Even though the title of your thread is "64 Ghia", you actually have a 1965 model year based on the heater levers next to the handbrake. So most likely the car was first registered in 1964, but built as of Aug. 1 1964 to be a '65 model year.

Thanks, yes the Ghia comes out from time to time with good weather.
This is my dad's car.
Yes it is a late 64.
Base was pretty solid.
It was a bolt to nut restoration.
I've done 2 others already, also a 64 Manilla yellow vert and a 67 Savannahbeige vert.

Did you ever get a clear answer about the holes in the engine lid? I have a '69 KG with a similar pattern of holes, but the correct badge only has 3 thicker pins.

The discussion was regarding 64-65 ghias with the petite volkswagon script. A 69 would have the more common larger volks script. Over the decades... plenty of VW's have extra or incorrect holes in them.

I was mainly just curious since the holes seem to be similar to those on my car. I thought it'd also be nice to know a bit more about the history of my car i.e. engine lid from another model, etc.

Difficult to really know if your hood is the original one or if it was replaced at some time. I admit to have removed and replaced some rear scripts in the 80's. They had these really cool "California Special" scripts on late 60's Mercury Cougars that I may or may not have moved over to a ghia once :oops: .
I guess you could sand it down to see what lies under the paint :cry:
