hey all.
I have a fake speedster on a 67 swing axel pan, stock drums and short axles.
looks like some people are fitting the new 17" repop rims on at least a few Speedsters...I believe these rims are usually 7" wide. don't know the offset/ET on them though.
I would guess 7" is about maxxed out for the rear wheel well. I'm looking for reports on how fat people have gone with the rear wheels on these cars.
I realize there is alot of different manufacturers for the fake speedster kit cars. but I figured can't hurt asking. I have stock 5x205 drums now. but I'd consider going 4 wheel disc and a custom drilled bolt pattern. I want to do something like a vintage 3 or 2 piece wheel in 16x7ish or so. maybe...heh.
I'd rather not use adapters as I want all the depth I can get for a deep lip |

Have you tried this site?

Lots of information on this replica speedster site. I've been a member for a number of years (I own a 2010 Intermeccanica).
Short axles will give you more room, but fitting 7" wide wheels in the back will be tricky. It can be done, but you'll need lots of offset to clear the fenders. I have 15x6 wheels, with a 37mm offset and 185/65-15 tires and I had to dial in more camber in the back to clear the fenders (IRS)
Something to remember is most speedster bodies are off-center on their pan, so what will clear the fender on one side may not clear on the other. I ran into this problem when I tried to fit 195/60-15 tires. They easily fit in the front, just cleared on the driver's rear and rubbed on the passenger's rear. |

I haven't joined up with any speedster specific site yet but I guess I see it in my future
I have a 79 Intermeccanica. it was my only car and daily driver for 6 years or so. it's just gathering 'want to buy' notes now  answer...hell no
I also have 195/60/15 now and I'd say I have 3/4" clearance at the rear wheel well, both sides about equal or very close clearance as the body narrows to the rear. the wheels are most likely 15x5.5, the usual looking stock chrome.
I've never heard of this offset, but mine seems to be centered up ok. I know of a black 79 Intermeccanica up here in the PNW with the repop 17" BRMs on. probably should have asked the guy when I saw him
anyway, thanks. I should probably join up on that site. I'll have a few more questions when I get into bringing it back to life. |

Cip1 has BRM replicas in 4.5, 5.5 & 6.5 widths. The 6.5 have a 4-1/8" back spacing.
The nice thing about these wheels is you could run a staggered setup, with 5.5s in the front and 6.5s in the rear.

| Yes, the 15" ones are narrow...but this guy has the 17" ones for sure. |

actually, I don't know what I want.
I think I might want 16" and I'm looking for a 3 piece wheel. or maybe if I'm feeling ambitious, turning a one piece aluminum wheel into a 3 piece wheel with BBS lips. I know, expensive. |
