What are the studs on the header for the rear cylinders for? Mine don't seem to have anything attached to them.

Are we talking 1.9 ? Short hanger brackets often missing. can be found at Van Cafe.

Yes, 1.9.

Brackets? Maybe that's why the current header is badly cracked. Those are some expensive brackets.

I found that my 1.9 was missing the same two hangers as yours when i installed new exhaust manifolds. Some one here on the Samba suggested using a adjustable turnbuckle from the hardware store. has worked well for me for over ten years now.

Yep my original headers were badly cracked as well, PO had tried to weld the cracks. but without the support brackets just cracked more. Just had to replace the muffler i installed all those years back. The flange that the tail pipe bolted to had rusted off. When i removed the cat to replace the muffler i noticed i had put the cat on backwards. Big dummy me. Drove that way for years.

I made some out of 1/2" conduit. Here is one that uses one of those empty exhaust studs you may be speaking of:

Pretty easy to smash the ends in a vise -- ground to a neat edge and painted black they look very similar to the originals.

Van cafe sells 5 brackets, is there a diagram somewhere illustrating where they all go? I apparently have zero of the five on my rig.
